especially when the alternative was to play Youkilis there, he wasn't terrible. offensively or defensively, but certainly a downgrade

Especially after the year Beltre had there. But he was getting this bad rap by many fans of being a contract year player who slacked off in other years.

I still believe Beltre is the best third baseman in baseball.

Machado was the best defensive third baseman in baseball last year (you could make an argument for Arenado though), we'll see if Beltre's down year last year defensively was just that or the sign of a future decline. If he recovers in that aspect then he becomes the best all around third baseman in baseball again.

Machado or Arenado can be the best in the future, but they'll have to improve their offense first.

Offensively and defensively, its probably Longoria

Beltre's legs are going, and its obvious in his defensive numbers

Machado was easily the best defensively last year... well we'll see how he rebounds from his knee injury

It's one thing for fans to say he's just a contract year player, but I still can't believe so many front offices just shrugged at him. I mean he actually preferred to play in Los Angeles since his home was there but the Angels refused to budge on their contract offer and then we came and gave him a much better deal.

Even if Beltre is starting a decline, I believe he's still better than the vast majority. I'm not convinced he wasn't paying hurt a lot last year.

Can't believe I forgot about Longoria... Yeah I'd say he's the best all around one right now.

Longoria's deal is ridiculously cheap. He's gonna spend basically his whole career in TB, and he's only making 9 and a half mil a year.

And I'm so glad they did, and had to settle for wells.

$135.6m / 10 Years (2013 - 2022) + 1 Option Years

2013: $6M, 2014: $7.5M, 2015: $11M, 2016: $12.1M, 2017: $13M, 2018: $13.5M, 2019: $14.5M, 2020: $15M, 2021: $18.5M, 2022: $19.5M

2023 Team Option: $13M ($5M buyout)

The original contract was for 6 years 17.5 million (2008-2013)

He provided about 162 million dollars in value on that one, craziness

I thought his contract was 15 years for 144.5?

The run together, it made previously agreed upon options locked in, the only difference comes in the 2016 year and on

It does essentially end up being about a 15 year deal

But I remember the original contract, the extension was signed 11/26/2012
