According to fangraphs, Kuroda's fastball averages 90-92, so average velocity is similar, actually Kuroda was around 90 on average last year

I can't speak to movement, but if experts say their fastballs are similar then I'd be inclined to believe them

One point being, Kuroda's value peaked in his age 38 at around 19.1 million but has fluctuated between 9.4 - 16.7 million the other years

So do I think the minimum for Tanaka should be 17 per? That answer is still no

If the proven ML pitcher and analog for Tanaka (Kuroda) has never made more than 16 million a season, then why would I think that's what Tanaka should make?

Not even an analogy because he's 25 and the other guy is pushing 40.

Sure it is, considering he's the guy that everyone compares Tanaka to and even at his best he's only been worth over 17 million once in 6 years, someone will overpay for Tanaka, I just have faith it won't be the Rangers

I think I heard it was a sports hernia, which was why he couldn't play in the field at the end of year. Not sure tho

SF press says that it never got beyond initial conversations and that there wasn't a physical.

I keep hearing about his flat fastball and unless you can bring your fast ball in the upper 90's if you get it up in the strike zone i don't care it is going to get hit hard in MLB. Look how many homers Yu gave up this year on his fast ball which is 3 or 4 MPH better then Tanaka's when not located well.I think Tanaka's split finger and other secondary pitch's are his best and that's what makes his fast ball work out for him.I think he is going to get paid lot's more then he is worth for sure i would not be comfortable with anything more then 5 years at 14 to 15 million a season.I don't think you are going to see the Ranger's signing any body else big unless it's a great fall for the remaining free agents.I think they will get another right handed bat to platoon at DH with Moreland and another back of the rotation arm to give depth to the 5th spot in our rotation.

Yu gave up a lot more bombs on that lollipop curve than his fastball.

Once again, does it matter? either way he's a free agent
True and I agree. He will have to pass a physical somewhere and I hope it's with us. Fix that and the #5 spot and let's play ball.

The number 5 spot will work itself out between ogando, Lewis, tepesch, and whoever else they bring in to compete for that spot. Which is fine with me. The only One of the main FA starters I'd bring in it's Garza since he won't cost a draft pick, and it would have to be at the right price.

Nothing is wrong. Somebody started their post inside the quote and every quote after that gets messed up until someone fixes it.

Garza is fine with me only at the right price. He was not all that great last year but we're talking about #5 spot. I am concerned about the DH. Does not have to be a Mantle or Maris but someone reliable to drive in runs. If it's Baker fine but the need is there. Failure to execute with RISP still rings in my ears and the ability to get that done is imperative more so than pitching. Our rotation did a good job and does not require the help so much as resolving scoring runs.

If they get Baker to platoon with Moreland, I believe that DH will be fine

Between a healthy Harrison, Tepesch and Lewis I believe that the rotation will be solid as well

I'd say people are gun shy more than anything. They saw how abysmal the offense was last year so they want more, more, more. They want every possible spot upgraded, and as much as humanly possible. In the midst of that I think people forget our don't realize just how much choo and fielder alone upgraded our offense.

We spent the entire season without a legitimate #3 hitter. That will bring any offense to a slow. We've got one now, and also upgraded our leadoff spot with arguably the best leadoff hitter in the game. Those two moves alone take this offense to another level. We've filled our truest needs several times over. Adding a guy like Morales to dh would be nice, but at this point you have to consider the cost versus reward. Morales would be icing on the cake, but Moreland and baker could do a good job all the same.

I've begrudgingly accepted that Moreland is gonna get another chance. They still need that RH bat to platoon with him, then I think they're done making moves.

Understand your apprehension. But IF IF Mitch can somehow make it through a season without an injury we may be delighted with what he delivers.

And let's not forget, maybe Beltre is going to be forced into 10 games + as the DH for rest purposes. And although I am not a fan of young guys DHing, maybe the Rangers are going to put Choice there and give him as many games as they can in the OF.

Playing a little of devils advocate I guess.

Choice needs to be in AAA if he's not playing every day.
