The best thing about these additions is jd and company managed to significantly upgrade our offense without touching our pitching or our top prospects. That's dinky usually not done when you upgrade at the level Texas did. They have really put themselves in a good position.

This is a very good point, and one which is too often ignored.

Our system remains very solid, and all it took was some money. And the money didn't hamstring us from doing anything we want, including going after Tanaka IMO. Can't make shit-for-sense where some of the baseball talking heads are coming from saying our signing of Choo takes us out of the Tanaka bidding.

I'm not certain I want us in the tanaka bidding.

Excellent Lainey. You can't look at discrete moves in a vacuum. You have to always look at the big picture.

Hard to keep up to speed on board posting especially this offseason thread. You go away for an hour or two and you are five pages behind.

With the number of posters in our populace now ... we need to find a structure that parses out the topics better. SportsHoopla guys have been great but we need architecture more like the old old ESPN system we had before we all left there three years ago.

Granted I'm very new to the board, but i imagine once the season rolls around there will be more threads rather than one sprawling offseason thread. Just a hunch tho

The Yankees are going to go hard after him, that rotation of theirs is kind of bad right now. But I definitely think that he's going to get overpaid by a team desperate for pitching and who thinks he can be the second Darvish.

That was terrible. Took a lot of pleasure out of posting. This board is so much better.

We need to have some type of gentleman's bet about your Bears in the bowl game.

I'm tellin ya, if the Bears show up with focus, this will look worse than the USC/Fresno game.

I prefer to let them stew in their own cesspool. If they're over there it means they're not here, and that's a win in my book.

Well said. Leave well enough alone.

Understood. But my point was, the signing of Choo and interest in Tanaka are not related.

We appear to be in a position to let the dust settle and play ball. Let's see how ST shakes out - ie, is Lewis done, or does he have 2 seasons left in the tank...is Ogando going back to the BP, etc - and then make adjustments.

If our scouts think he is a #2, then why the hell not? He doesn't cost draft picks or prospects and Texas has had a very hard time landing top free agent pitchers. Only if our scouts believe in him tho

I think the issue is there are issues with his game and he's going to cost more per year than Darvish, which shouldn't be the case

I see him as a 3, he's got the secondary pitches and a solid but not elite fastball

They should win but focus is the key..i.e. osu. Total disaster.

I agree with Beltre in the trade with Moreland and Sardinas because Beltre is out of options and that way we can get something for him before we lose him on waivers

Have not spent a lot of time keeping up ... but saw what JTA said ... and I tend to agree.

Beltre likely to be 4th OF ... would be kinda nice to have a backup CFer to Martin somewhere in the top 3 tiers. If TEX ships Beltre away ... who is your next CFer? Yea ... Choo played there last season for CIN but that's because they had nobody else but other than last year ... he's a COF. So ... good chance Beltre out of waivers is a likely candidate for that spot.

Haven't read anything to make me believe that's what the team thinks

what i saw was that prior to the Choo signing that the team was shifting interest toward Tanaka. to me that indicates the the Rangers are still in the Tanaka race

I don't see why Darvish's contract should impact Tanaka's worth. Totally different circumstances in their negotiations with the new posting rules.

As far as Tanaka's stuff, I'll leave it to our very capable scouts to decide bc I have no clue.

Could be, but could have been a smoke screen to get Choo to sign quicker. Never know with JD
