ARoid suspended for entire 2014 season per arbitrator so the Yankees luck out again freeing up 25M for this season

Atlanta, Tex trade

Looking back at that trade Texas won but Atlanta got a phenomenal player and they were in a win/competing now mode. I'd say both teams got what they wished for but Atlanta couldn't make resigning him happen so they traded him off to LAA.

Saw a few comments on DMN stating that this is all due to the Game 6 curse. I'm like WTF? How is it a Game 6 curse? Idiot comment people on DMN usually.

No, no, no to Gallardo.

If this were two to three years ago, I would disagree with you. But I'm with you on this one. Gallardo's velocity has decreased in each of the last 4 seasons, leading many to wonder if "dead arm" is starting to creep in due to the sheer number of innings he's logged. Also, his walk rate has been on the climb too. Less velocity + less control is never a good formula. Plus it would likely take a semi-decent package to land him.

If we're going the trade route, I'd rather us put together a better package and land a pitcher who is still in his prime. If it's the free agent route we're taking, I'd rather sign a veteran like Arroyo (HR's and all) on the cheap and have him eat innings in the #5 rotation slot with a fairly decent ERA.

They escaped paying him $25 Million this season. I'd say that's a pretty huge win for them.

they still owe him for 2015-17 and that's 64M for a 39 year old player who hasn't played for most of the 2013 & now the 2014 seasons

What a compelling argument. We need a good pitcher and MIL needs a first baseman. Mitch would be expendable.

He's not that good of a pitcher. Look at his peripherals, and his velocity has been dropping consistently. Second, he'll cost more than Mitch.

Can't stand the damn A's but I'm envious - an SP goes down and they seem to be able to replenish them with somebody better from their farm....Cards and maybe even the Braves are similar. Do we not have anybody at Triple A who can fill the void while Holland recovers?? It is apparent that other than Luke Jackson, our strong farm system mainly applies to position players.....true?

I know he'll cost more than Mitch, but not much more. They have a need just like we do. We need depth. I brought up Arroyo and Gallardo yesterday, and I think they would bolster the rotation while allowing Ogando to stay in the pen.

I'd rather have ogando in the rotation than those two. Big pass.
