dreaming out loud....

with a line-up of
Choo-20HR
Andrus-5HR
Prince-40HR
Beltre-35HR
Cruz-30HR
Rios-25HR
Soto-10HR
Martin-5HR
Profar-10HR

and a bench of
Moreland-15HR
Baker-10HR
Arencibia-10HR
Rosales-<5HR
Beltre-<5HR

I could see this team hitting 200+ HRs to back up some very nice pitching...that would be a huge upgrade over last season's run support! Admittedly the bench HR numbers are a little high, but that's a result of the typical Cruz injury creating the platoon at DH for part of the year and I see the catcher position being more of a 60/40 split behind the plate with Wash playing the hot hand or the SP's fav catcher.

Dan Lebatard had his vote stripped...how lame. I respect what he said.

His vote should be stripped. Publicity stunt.

The BBWAA shouldn't exist. They have no relevance to the game of baseball. LeBatard brought the focus to that and it's more obvious than it's ever been. I don't care how much of a jackass he is, I appreciate that he did it.

That's fair enough. His ballot was entirely reasonable, and I don't disagree with his viewpoints. Just saying he shouldn't be allowed to vote again if he didnt give a shit this time around.

Besides, until Pete Rose is in the hall it will continue to be a joke.

RIP Raffy

The Pirates are really getting rid of the Jolly Roger logo? What in the hell is wrong with this country?

As opposed to the guy who voted for one guy (Jack Morris)?

At least the other guy can reason that he voted for people that the people wanted to see in there

Pretty safe to say that Raffy will be a trivia question later on, only guy with both 500 HRs & 3000 hits NOT in the HOF

I think steroid guys get in eventually but it will be many many many years later when voters are all new and come from a newer generation.

Think it requires the veteran committee to put them back on the ballot. That's a tough hurdle to achieve.

After posting ... googled Hall of Fame Veterans Committee and of course Wikipedia had an item ... pretty interesting read ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veterans_Committee

Vernon Wells DFA'd by the Yankees.

Hmmmmm. I'd be willing to take a flier on him - if the price was right.

I think he killed the Rangers a few times. I don't think he's got much killing left in him, though.

We still need a RH bat to platoon with Moreland at DH. If they've already given up on Morales and Cruz, why not? It's better than doing nothing.

Don't know that we have given up on either until JD brings in someone else and I hope it's not Vernon Wells. Butler would be a better choice to me.
