I don't worry too much about pitchers walk numbers in ST. They are trying to strengthen up and fine tune pitches. THey aren't trying to keep guys off base, just trying to hit spots. In a real game they would change the approach at 3-0, but especially early in ST they have one inning so they are working on edge location every pitch.

I just watch for injuries from the pitching staff. Nothing else really worries me.

Pretty much.

He threw it wide of the bag - pulling Moreland off.

Ogando had a 4 pitch walk to start, then a HBP, and a bunt for a hit - for his 1st 3 batters.
Was reported he was trying to work "coming inside" to the hitters.... take that for what its worth.

That said, apparently this leg kick of Cruz's is helping. 2nd game he's had a HR. (if you count intrasquad)

"Ian Kinsler made a nice play to his left to glove a grounder from Alex Gordon, the first batter of the game, but Kinsler’s throw forced Mitch Moreland off the bag. It was ruled as a hit."

Another affect of having good range, you get to balls others wouldn't and sometimes it leads to rushed throws that don't always work out

Kinsler haters fail to get this. Just like them bitching about his pop ups.

His pop ups are ridiculous though.... its whenever he reverts to that stupid uppercut swing (bad habits never die) instead of swinging level through the zone.

I agree, but people ignore his OBP and ops and use just that to say he sucks.

Kirkman had a good outing today.

2IP/1 hit/0R/3K's

We really need him to step it up this year.

I agree here, the positives are there for sure, but sometimes he gets stuck in bad habits

If thats Joesph Ortiz, I've been following him for a long time, always been one of the youngest guys at every level despite not being a premium prospect

Very small guy 5-7 I think, but definitely a future as a LH specialist, I'm definitely rooting for him and guys like Leury Garcia to make the big club

Well if he and Kirkman can continue to pitch like they did today it could allow Ross to seize the 5th rotation spot if they feel he deserves it.

Ross in the 5 hole and Perez in AAA, Kirkman as the longman, and Ortiz as a LH specialist

Sounds good to me

If people are doing well then there's no need to rush Lewis back from his injury and thats a fresh arm for down the stretch

I've never understood the Kinsler uppercut swing discussion/complaint. He's had the same swing plane and approach since day one. It seems that it's more about his pitch selection than swing plane. JMO.

Agreed. That swing is what allows him to get his hands inside so well and turn on pitches.

Can't say that I've seen anyone pitch, but thats 3 projected starters in a row who haven't pitched well (Ogando, Holland, Harrison), hopefully its just early ST jitters
