Well, its not really the offseason anymore.... Spring Training is here!

Who is everyone's "pick" to land the #5 starter role? CF?

My pick is Justin Grimm. Though it sounds like Perez is looking quite good.
Believe Martin will platoon in the beginning of the season with Gentry...but grab a hold of the spot by All-Star break.

Olt will be Cruz's stand in when he goes down for PED use....

That's all I got for now.

Is Ross out of the running for SP? I've been hearing some whispers about Garcia in the OF this year. Doesn't seem like there is any room unless injuries happen as well as a 50 game break for Cruz.

Who you all have for having a big year? I'm talking about making a leap in stats from last year to this year, regardless of tenure. I expect Elvis is going to really put together some power this year.

Things I'd like most to see change from last year is Ian's defense and the teams baserunning. Didn't seem like we were as aggressive or effective last year.

I think Gentry and Martin will have a pretty strong platoon all year and both put up solid numbers in CF between them

Martin Might spend a little time on the corner if anything happens to Cruz, perhaps also splitting time with Olt

I think the 5th spot will be an intriguing battle between young guys; Perez, Ross, Grimm and maybe even Buckel

Just read something about Buckel on ESPN:

"Buckel notes that besides his fastball, curve, slider and changeup repertoire, he's added a shuuto, or a reverse slider. I'll let Buckel explain.

"It's like a left-handed version of a cutter," he said. "It has run. It's not hard enough to be a sinker and not slow enough to be a screwball. It's in between. It's a unique pitch."

And one that Buckel said he started throwing more midway through last year.

"It moves in to a right-handed hitter for me," Buckel said. "It stayed low in the zone. It was a big pitch for me. I could throw it 2-1, 1-1, 3-1, a good pitch to throw behind in the count. It would help me get back in the count.""

I've always liked Buckel, I'm glad we haven't traded him, I think he's going to be a good pitcher for us

Josh Hamilton stands by comments about Texas: Angels Blog: Orange County Register

"I said there’s true baseball fans and then there are others that are not," Hamilton said. "I said the ones that are true baseball fans won’t boo when I come back, and the ones that are not, will. It’s just like last year, when I got booed after going 2-for-4 in a game, driving in a couple runs, and I struck out the other two times. You understand the Yankees, Boston, Cubs, Phillies -- baseball towns. If they were doing that, that’s one thing."

Ummm..... only time I can remember this asshat being booed was the last game of the season when he saw 8 pitches....and went 0 for 4.

this "not a baseball" area put 3.46M in the seats last season and only the Phillies & the Yankees drew more. that's nearly 400000 more than the Angels pulled in

Perez wins the #5 spot

Martin and Gentry platoon in cf till Martin seizes it outright by the end of July.

Cruz never serves one day o suspension but does miss time due to injury giving Olt time at the big league level at which he produces.

So is Cruz back next year since he now will command less money? I know it depends on the results of this year, but gotta think most teams will look at his stats with jaded glasses now.

If he is actually given the job and allowed to play every day...and prepare to play every day, I agree 100%. The guy has something there, just needs some routine to his play to discover it.

Maybe this year he'll actually show he wants the job.
