If you want to talk about SPs for 2013 ... better list 10-12 SPs to work from.

Right now we aren't absolutely sure who the SPs will be in September ... so not sure why we ought to be trying to figure who the 5 SPs are going to be next year.

unless something drastic happens in the next couple of weeks i think it's safe to say our September starters are Darvish, Dempster, Feldman, Harrison & Holland. who do you think they will be?

No way they pay Feldman 9 million next year

... and TEX will pay MY $16mil? At least Feldman has a positive WAR.

TEX could certainly buy Scooter out for $600k ... but consider that with his 0.3WAR today that's not too far from 2 wins and with each Win = $5mil ... then the $9.25mil might be exactly his value.

We'll see pretty soon ... and given the consistency of the rest of the rotation plus Colby and Feliz not in the 2013 mix ... then today I bet they plan on bringing Feldman back.

They don't have any choice in paying MY, they have a choice of not paying Feldman, and I don't see any way that they do

My point is that you need to have 12 SPs in order to have the starters to go 162 games. Look at JTA's piece on prospects ... it is strategic in its view. Discussion about 2013 is not just an extension of 2012 chat.

I don't see any reason so far why TEX will want to contract Ryan Dempster (or Roy Oswalt) for 2013 ... or sign some guy named Zack with a social disorder for a trillion dollars who has 1 win in 4 starts and a 1.5+WHIP.

When you go food shopping do you just go to the store and buy stuff? Or do you check to see what is in the pantry, freezer, and refrigerator first? Not checking is how TEX ends up signing a Rich Harden.

Suggest we fill as many of 12 blanks on a sheet of paper with SPs TEX already has at AA or higher that are MLB qualified or ready. Then we can figure out what to go shopping for... if at all.

so that would be Darvish, Feldman, Harrison, Holland & Perez. what would be your projected team win total +/- be? with those 5, i will start it at 82

Think much will depend on how this plays out in September and in the playoffs.
Harrison should be solid for next year. He is not a no#1 but close to it
We could hope that Darvish improves from this season cutting back on his walks
M.Perez pitched well last night going 8 and only giving up 1. Think he has good shot of starting next year.
I know Feldman has pitched better lately but at 9 mill next season, cant see him coming back unless he pitches lights out the rest of the way.
Holland should be back as a starter but I just cant figure out what he is at this point. He was so good today up until the 6th inning. Maybe he still coming around after losing so much weight from that stomach illness.

Just in case not of you heard, our first round pick this year Joey Gallo pick was assigned to Spokane. He set a record for homeruns(18) in the AZL rookie league this summer. Have been tracking this kids progress from day one. He also has a cannon of an arm as well.

looks like one suitor may have gone away and another takes their place if this trade goes thru:

The Red Sox and Dodgers are closing in on a trade that would send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles, Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports (on Twitter). Hurdles remain, but the sides continue working toward a deal.

That would be one hell of a blockbuster deal. They must really want to unload Beckett.

Rangers have $84.4M committed to next year

And that's without a deal for Hamilton. Wonder if that includes Feldman's salary. If so that will be a decent chunk taken off.
