Portland beats Saskatoon to earn a birth in the semi-final. That puts Halifax directly into the final. So far this year's tournament has played out exactly like last years.

Halifax = London
Portland = Saint John
London = Edmonton
Saskatoon = Shawinigan

completely Leier's fault for trying to cut inside when there was no room to do so.
that was a good, solid hit.

only room for penalty/suspension was if he was clocked with the chicken-wing instead of the shoulder.
/David Branch would still give it 10 games.

I agree, or at the very least should be considered incidental. It seemed like the commentator was about to say the same thing as he acknowledged the cut to the middle, but then put the blame on the guy that threw the hit.

Glad to see Portland win and make Saskatoon have to travel an extremely difficult road to get to the championship final.

i think thrower might've caught him on the chin.. leier was out before he came down, his face went straight in to the ice

regardless, it didn't look malicious to me, just a hit on a guy making a bad cut to the middle

hopefully leier's alright, he has been a somewhat surprising prospect for the flyers :)

#CHL announces #NHL Hockey Ops decision to suspend D. Thrower (SAS) for balance of #MCMemorialCup for check to head injuring T. Leier (POR)

This is a tough one for me, I mean Leier decided to cut in when he probably should have stayed wide. Yes, I feel bad that Leier got hurt, but I think Thrower just meant to throw a solid body check (looks like he did hit him pretty hard in the chin though).

At any rate, you know David Branch wouldn't hesitate throwing the book at Thrower.

No he wouldn't. Branch hands out 10-20 game suspensions in the OHL like they're candy so this isn't surprising in the least. Fortunately his policies haven't hit the WHL in full force yet, though discipline is starting to head in that direction. I hate to see guys injured, but what I hate even more is that players are not responsible for their own safety anymore. If you try and make a good hit and the player you are hitting does something stupid and puts himself in a bad position and gets hurt, too bad you get a long suspension.

3-2 now after 2. I thought this was over after the Moose went up 3-0 after the 1st. The ice definitely seems to be tilted towards 1 end. Portland is going to have to change that trend if they are to come back.

good gravy there's a lot of talent in this game.

/I agree - MacKinnon is the best of the bunch by a fair margin.

Druin - 5 assists (to tie a record from 1985 - Dan Hodgson)
MacKinnon - 3 goals, 2 assists

Petan and Rattie 1G, 3A each for Portland.

hell of a game
and David Branch just suspended the captain for touching the trophy too hard.

- Halifax MooseHeads finish the year with a 77-8-4 record.
- Halifax Mooseheads went 3-0 against the other league champions, beating them by a combined score of 22-10.
- Feeling vaguely patriotic that the best junior hockey team going, stocked with a 17- and an 18-year-old phenom, is named after a brewery.

wow, that was a special team. utter dominance

So that's three straight for the Q, am I right? And the Dub has been cursed since Spokane won and broke the trophy.

Having watched the game, I feel Colorado will be making a BIG mistake if they take Jones 1st overall. MacKinnon is by the best player in the draft. He made Jones look silly at times. It would be one thing if Jones were a Pronger or Niedermayer kind of player. I don't view him in that regard. Since that's the case I would take the Center 1st overall & not think twice about it.
