By the way, this is the CHL championship tournament, there is no Russian team entered, let's keep the Russian flag off the ice in the future.

I don't have a problem with it. Kid just won a pretty important championship. Let him celebrate how he wants. Tough to get upset at someone for being proud of his heritage.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about the air horns. A lot of my fellow Sea Dogs fans complain that we aren't allowed air horns here. I can't understand what makes them want to blow those stupid things so bad. They do absolutely nothing to add to the hockey atmosphere. If anything, I think they take away from it.

I suppose maybe if you're in the other team's rink and you just want to be heard anyway you can by your team, then sure bring the air horns (if allowed)and the cowbells and whatever else you want.

As a Sea Dogs fan I would hate to have foreign players gone from the CHL. :D

It's an issue that has been discussed in the past. I don't know if there's ever anything that's going to come of it, but they have at least talked about eliminating Europeans from the CHL before. Personally I'd like to see teams have the option of carrying either 3 over-agers and 2 Euros, or 4 over-agers and 1 Euro. I think that would be a beneficial change for the entire CHL, but that's really another issue and I digress.

Yeah I agree. We kind of saw this in the 2010 World Cup with those damn vuvuzelas. They completely wreck the atmosphere of a game. Spokane's main rival is Tri-City and just about every fan in their arena has a cowbell (Everett is pretty bad in this regard as well). If you want to be loud I don't have a problem with that, but I don't want to go to a hockey game and have to listen to cowbells for two and a half hours. Thankfully Spokane fans don't do cowbells, or noise clackers or air horns or anything like that. Makes the game experience much more enjoyable.

If the CHL wants to put a stop to it all they have to do is eliminate the ability of foreign players to play in their leagues. Hmm.. I wonder what school Emerson Etem would have gone too?? I'm sure the USHL would be overjoyed. Sorry Seth Jones no WHL for you. You do get the opportunity to earn a degree at the college of your choice that has a hockey program though.

Where did I say anything about not permitting foreign players to play in the CHL?!? I mean, c'mon how do you jump to a conclusion like that based on my previous posts?!? It's a club tournament, not an international tournament where you're representing your country, that's my point.

Oh well, that's enough bandwidth wasted on this subject.

Fucking bullshit! They don't even win their league but end up as Memorial Cup Champs.

surprising take dash ... I have no prob with the flag either ... he won it for Shawinigan with Russia in his heart ... you just look at the way Chelsea's united nations of players celebrated the CL win with flags draped ... thought it was very classy

I got a bigger problem with what julians ranting about ... even though the Giants won the mem cup this way ... theres gotta be a better way to put the home team behind the 8 ball because not having to grind out 4 rounds in their respective leagues playoffs is a huge advantage

Maybe it's just the Memorial Day weekend that's stirring my patriotic juices combined with having to listen to those annoying air horns the entire game last night. It doesn't help matters that Russia has beaten Canada at the World Juniors the last couple of years (including the most recent win on Saddledome ice no less).

It's not a major deal, it just rubbed me the wrong way at the time.

You stated right here that this is the CHL championship & the Russian flag basically shouldn't be paraded on the ice.

I understand your sentiment, however like I said all the CHL has to do to make sure it doesn't happen again is eliminate foreign players from playing in their leagues.

Maybe that'll lift the Dub's curse (no WHL team has won the Memorial Cup since the Chiefs broke the trophy during their celebration).

Or the OHL will just go on a hell of a run for the rest of eternity.

I hope they enjoyed hosting (and unfortuately winning the Memorial Cup tourney) because it'll be a long long time before they get to host again.

/Winning the QMJHL championship will be their only way back...

Shouldn't be too difficult if they have the same refs for their home games.
