Desmond Trufant - DB - Huskies

Scouts Inc.'s Todd McShay believes Washington CB Desmond Trufant is a plug and play starter.

Phillip Thomas - DB - Bulldogs

Former NFL Scout Daniel Jeremiah considers Fresno State S Phillip Thomas a late second or early third-round prospect.

Thomas "has some fly-by missed tackles but outstanding ball skills," Jeremiah tweeted. The poor tackling is a big part of Thomas' game, since he takes good angles towards ball carriers but tends to slow and whiff once close enough. That lunging or lack of quick twitch movement could really hurt Thomas in the NFL, but expect him to play a center field type role.

Manti Te'o - LB - Fighting Irish

Pro Football Weekly's Eric Edholm expects the Vikings "to be serious players" for Notre Dame ILB Manti Te'o.

"Need at LB," Edholm tweeted. "Filled one WR spot. (Two Notre Dame) teammates on roster," along with two first-round picks. It does make sense, but we wonder if teams consider Te'o more than a two down player in the NFL and if not, what is the value of a run defending linebacker with adequate ability in coverage.

D.J. Swearinger - DB - Gamecocks

South Carolina S D.J. Swearinger is one of NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah's favorites.

"He plays without brakes... always at his top speed and looking to hit someone," Jeremiah tweeted. He went on to say the safety "played possessed" against Tyler Wilson and Arkansas. We've been long time admirers of Swearinger's, respecting his willingness to set the tone in the back half.

Johnathan Cyprien - DB - Golden

Panthers NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes FIU S Johnathan Cyprien is a "day one starter."

We've been saying the same and consider Cyprien the second best safety in the 2013 class. Jeremiah calls the FIU Golden Panther "rock solid, well-rounded... Fluid, athletic, tough," with good "ball skills." He was asked to play close to the line of scrimmage quite a bit in college, but showed plenty of range while at the Senior Bowl. "My only concern with Cyprien involved a couple issues with communication... not on the same page with CB... Teams will ask him about those plays."

Dion Jordan - LB - Ducks

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes Oregon pass rusher Dion Jordan is a "perfect scheme fit" for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jeremiah also called Jordan "smooth and slithery." We are guessing he is projecting the pass rusher to Jacksonville's Leo position, but we'd be sad not to see Jordan play strong side linebacker behind a four man front. He is exceptionally comfortable in space.

All things considered, I think I've been pretty damn good, historically, at predicting if players will be good or bad. Even the best minds on planet earth get a bunch wrong, so I'm not saying I haven't completely whiffed on players before. But I was saying all year that Barkley, Woods, McDonald were vastly overrated (the first 2 were getting top 5-ish hype, and McDonald was getting 1st round hype). I didn't like the AJ Jenkins pick, I was absolutely the most excited person here about the Aldon pick, I was complaining the Niners didn't take Orakpo over Crabtree (when most people wanted Everette Brown instead)...

Does anyone agree with this? I think you're more known for copying Clyde and putting heavy emphasis on the combine.

Markus Wheaton - WR - Beavers

Scouts Inc. ranks Oregon State WR Markus Wheaton as the 87th best prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft.

This puts Wheaton as the 10th best receiver in the draft. We like Wheaton quite a bit more, but the top of the receiver class is very good, with a nice blend of outside and slot targets. The Oregon State Beaver made a living taking the top off coverages, but his ability to break off his routes with speed is very good.

Ezekiel Ansah - DL - Cougars

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes BYU DL Ezekiel Ansah will benefit from focusing on one position in the NFL.

BYU used Ansah from a variety of different alignments, as a stand-up pass rusher, 9 and 7 technique end, and 5 or 3 techniques in certain packages. It was asking a lot from an inexperienced pass rusher, but if Ansah can learn to create separation on his own he will be lethal. Jeremiah also loves Ansah's violent hands.

I hate to do this to you Pozz:

Isaac Redman - RB - Steelers
Coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged that the Steelers still must upgrade at running back before the season.
Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman are currently Pittsburgh's top two backs, but they'll face camp battles -- likely from a high-drafted rookie -- to maintain their spots atop the depth chart. "Obviously, we need to add to the pool of talent we have at that position," Tomlin said. The Steelers would appear to be the favorites to land Alabama's Eddie Lacy, quite possibly at No. 17 overall.

Sylvester Williams - DT - Tar Heels

UNC DT Sylvester Williams ranks as National Football Post draft analyst Russ Lande's 10th best player.

Williams is the second ranked defensive tackle behind Star Lotulelei, who sits at No. 4. Sheldon Richardson, Jesse Williams, and Sharrif Floyd round at the top five players at the position. We like Williams' quickness off the snap and ability to initially penetrate, but he fails to finish plays.

Kid has been climbing the boards like crazy:

Gavin Escobar - TE - Aztecs

Russ Lande of the National Football Post now ranks San Diego State TE Gavin Escobar as the 16th best player in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Escobar is not the top tight end, however, with Tyler Eifert checking in at No. 11. Stanford's Zach Ertz is close behind at No. 21. We like Escobar, specifically his ability to catch everything away from his body, but wonder if he will handle physical defenders during his routes.

Oh well...how about Patterson?

Tavon Austin - WR - Mountaineers

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that West Virginia WR Tavon Austin "won't make it" to pick No. 23, the Vikings' earliest first-round pick.

Austin will be a popular Vikings pick in mock drafts, but it appears as though the electric playmaker won't have to wait that long on draft day. He's not an outside receiver, but Austin makes plays with the ball in his hands and has very quick movement skills to create separation. Some will call him small, but Austin never missed a single practice in college.

This is why I am scared of him and wouldn't want him on my team unless we're talking about a late 6th or 7th round pick:

William Gholston - DL - Spartans

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes teams question Michigan State DL William Gholston's mental makeup.

"...he did not show good flexibility to maintain leverage to be an effective two gap player. Most concerning however was the lack of aggressiveness, intensity and passion that Gholston displayed during the workout," Lande wrote. "An NFL source in attendance told me that Gholston’s demeanor throughout the workout made them question if he has the mental makeup to handle being a five technique who has to anchor and physically control blocker."

Le'Veon Bell - RB - Spartans

National Football Post's Russ Lande writes Michigan State RB Le'Veon Bell could go in the second- to-third round.

Lande's report seems to be consistent with what's been reported as of late. Most recently, NFL.com's Gil Brandt said Bell could be picked "at the top of the second-round." He compared Bell to Chuck Muncie, a running back in the 1980s.

Milliner at No. 5 for Detroit?
March, 18, 2013 1:47PM ET
By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

With a lot of question marks surrounding their secondary heading into the start of the league year, some believed that the Detroit Lions would be interested in using their first-round pick (No. 5 overall) on the draft class' top CB, Alabama's Dee Milliner. After the first wave of free agency swept S Louis Delmas and CB Chris Houston back onto the team's proverbial shore, the need for help in the defensive backfield isn't as great, but there is still some belief that Milliner remains under consideration.

That belief was buttressed on Monday with the report from Anwar Richardson of MLive.com that the Lions will be spending one of their 30 official pre-draft visits with Milliner. The pre-draft visits are not always an indicator of interest -- they can be used as a smoke-screen to drive up interest in the pick from teams situated below them -- but given all the other factors, Milliner would be a reasonably strong selection for them. It could come down to whether he's still on the board: both the Oakland Raiders (at No. 3) and Philadelphia Eagles (at No. 4) are also believed to be interested in Milliner.

They should:

Will Buffalo take Geno?
March, 18, 2013 1:34PM ET
By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

Throughout the 2012 season, Buffalo Bills GM Buddy Nix continued to drop hints that the team would be using a high draft pick on a quarterback during the 2013 offseason. So it wasn't all that surprising when the club elected to release Ryan Fitzpatrick last week, nor has it been surprising to hear Buffalo linked to any of the available QB prospects in terms of their first-round pick (No. 8 overall). Will that pick be used on WVU's Geno Smith?

In the opinion of Leo Roth of the Democrat and Chronicle, there's no question: the Bills should target Smith, and potentially trade up to ensure that no one ahead of them lands him first. Roth believes that Oakland (at No. 3) and Arizona (at No. 7) could also be interested, and we've also heard a lot of buzz on Philadelphia (No. 4) being interested in Smith as their long-term answer at the position.

We know that Buffalo is at least somewhat interested, as they had representatives in attendance at Smith's pro day, and they'll meet with him on Friday, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Here's ESPN AFC East blogger James Walker's take on the situation:

Geno Smith - QB - Mountaineers

When asked what the Eagles' draft preparation means come April 25, NFL Films' Greg Cosell answered that it "all comes down to their feelings on QB Geno Smith."

"If they believe Geno Smith is that guy, they are going to draft him at four," Cosell added. He made sure to point out that Chip Kelly's offense at Oregon used a running threat at the position, but when the head coach was at New Hampshire "that wasn't the case." Smith to the Eagles is certainly gaining steam, however.
