Its not crazy ideas, its trying to make the team better. We get better with both ideas of EE and kemp. But with Kemp we kill two birds with one stone by getting an outfielder who is great at defense and even better than EE on offense. You get EE, then you got a rock at dh for a while, but you got a young unproven dude in the outfield AND at second base. Not about that.

Also, AND I KNOW THIS IS A MINOR FACTOR, but you get kemp, he fills those seats up pretty damn quick. I know that of late we havent really needed it, but still he does that more than EE

I don't think he's great at defense but he's great with the bat with plus speed

Terps can you guarantee tonight that Kemp is 100% healthy with no lingering ailments that would cause him to miss any time on the field after signing him for $ 130 mil? If you can , we need to sign him.

Unfortunately, I cant guarantee anything about anyone. That doesnt mean we shouldnt trade for him. I bet LA takes a decent amount of salary back. Its worth a shot right now. There arent that many more options that actually make the team better than last year. I don't wanna stand still next season, I wanna get better, just like the A's have gotten

who, kemp? He's a very good outfielder. Hell, he played center for them. Putting him at left with martin at center not only lessens injury risk but it makes our outfield significantly better, defensively and offensively, then we were last year

That's dumb DT. Can you guarantee the health of any player?
Not dumb Justin. WE are talking about an exceptional case of a man who has been thru a lot of injuries. A little common sense applies here. If it were your money Ibet you would be a little more concerned.

We all want to get better. He is a huge risk. I know you can't guarantee him and if he were really cheap it would be different but he isn't. Yes I would like to have him healthy. I know what his value could be.

I think he meant that you can't guarantee that anyone is gonna be healthy. We're going to give him a physical and workouts with multiple scout and team physicians before we trade for anyone. If Kemp were to incidentally get hurt next year, it wouldnt be because of lingering injuries, it would be something separate. But I'm not even concerned about that right now. When people hand out contracts, they are doing that with the risk that the player could get hurt at any time. Just because someone gets hurt doesnt mean it was a bad signing at the time. Those are things that we can't predict. But based on the more likely result and assuming that he doesnt get hurt after we carefully give him all the necessary routines, I would pull the trigger

I might be, but it's not my money. You asked if he can guarantee his health. Of course he can't. Can you guarantee Choo will be healthy while paying him 120 million, no. That's the risk in signing someone to a contract like that. They have some of the best medical personnel in pro sports. I'm sure JD would take all of this in before deciding. As of right now I trust JD.

PLUS EE is only signed for two more years. Kemp is signed through freakin 2019. If they give us a decent amount of salary then hell ya i would rather have the obvious option.

You may be right. I bet the Angels thought the same thing when they got Josh.

Choo has no business making that.

Exactly. We, without a shadow of a doubt, would give him a physical, work him out probably MULTIPLE times, and interview him before actually finalizing a trade. And scouts, physicians, and JD would be at all of these. If Kemp is hurt, then they're gonna know. JD is smarter than me you or anyone else on the boards, and I assure you he isnt desperate. He is continuously talking with the dodgers about this because he knows its a good idea too.

You may be right. I bet the Angels thought the same thing when they got Josh.

With all due respect, comparing the Angels decision makers to ours is absurd. We weren't going to give Josh that contract. The Angels were trying to stick it to us. Don't count Josh out just yet either. I loathe him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has a bounce back year.

Its not a 25 million dollar investment for a guy who is reckless, gets hurt all the time, is horrible off the field, and is a mental midget. Its a sturdy guy who isn't reckless, has only been hurt at various times the last year and a half, has a fine public image, and is fine mentally. Two completely different people. Also, Kemp is already cheaper, never mind how much cheaper he'll be when they eat some cash
