Should Sherman shutup?

Don't see any reason for him quit yapping. It's bringing the spotlight to Seattle Seahawks and being a verbal leader and saying basically we fear no one, not even Tom Brady is a good thing. It's something we haven't seen before from a Seahawk player, although Gary Payton use to do it for the Sonics, its kind of un Seattle like. I like it.

GP did most of his trash talking on the court. Sure, he had the odd outburst to the media, but most of it was where it belongs.

I'm not a Sherman hater, but I do think he has gone too far more than once and if he really needs this sort of thing for extra motivation maybe he isn't NFL quality. Just play and let your actions speak for you. Seeking out Brady was a chump move and some of his trash talk in public will serve to add motivation to other teams.

I think he should be in the face of every receiver and QB on the field before and during the game. But once the final whistle blows leave it there. Be a pro.

It does make me cringe when he does it off the field. If he wants to do it on the field and it helps rather than hinders his game and isn't detrimental to the team in any way, fine, but the off the field chatter is taking the focus off of the positive direction the team is going in and putting the focus squarely on what he's going to say next and who he's going to say it to or about. That kind of stuff should be left to the individual sports (boxing, track, etc.), where the athletes only have to worry about themselves, in my opinion. I know people here love it and some will probably even tell me to lighten up or something of that nature, but I'm just not a fan of too much yapping off the field. It's unnecessary to me.

I know Payton did a lot of jawing when he played in the NBA, but he generally kept it on the court. I honestly don't remember many instances where Payton got into it with someone in the off-season.

There is something to be said for letting your play do the talking for you, but I realize that talking trash is part of some players' games, which is fine, as I said, as long they keep it on the field.

My issue with Sherman's trash talk is it all feels so manufactured and calculated and he feels more like that wrestling heel that knows how to work a crowd. He says enough to rile people up but nothing too over the top and inflammatory that crosses any lines.

Kudos to him because it works. He's far more attention and looks if he completely kept his mouth shut.

And the whole Skip Bayless thing he knew exactly what he was doing. Skip Bayless in a sense plays the "heel" on First Take so it made Skip the perfect target because he knew that there is a large segment of people that don't like Bayless and would love to see Bayless get taken to task. If he pulled that on anyone else especially someone respected in the media he would get the brunt of the bad pub.

All of this so it pays off come contract negation time. Get your name out there as much as possible, build hype around it, which puts pressure on ownership to get a deal done because suddenly you've become a star player, and now you have more leverage in contract talks.

I don't think he's really anything more than amusing, but it seems his recent stuff--- the stuff he said about Roddy White, the Skip Bayless, the comment about half the NFL is on adderol (just half the Seahawks, he was mistaken) -- all lacked the humor he had earlier. I think he's just a little desperate lately. That being said, I'm not a hypocrite about this, I think he's a great corner, I don't think he's a bad person and I find him amusing, and I'd feel the same way if he was a 49er, but I almost think he's starting to take his own talk a little too seriously.

To be honest I really wish Sherman would quit. It's getting a little old and I'm wondering if his teammates are getting tried of answering questions about what he said. Now when it came to Tom Brady I had no problem with what he did because earlier in the week Brady mentioned something about how great it was going to be to hear the team turn or become silenced. Therefore no problem (to me) to return the favor after the game. Didn't really enjoy the you mad picture after the game but whatever all in good fun. Than the changing the twitter name to optimus prime was all in good fun no harm (more over blown than anything else.)

And than there was the Revis issue. To me Revis took a little thing and blow it out of the water. (Sherman has every right to say who he thinks the best CB's are) and the fact Revis was hurt (physically) was enough to lower him from his top five. But Revis couldn't handle it and started attacking him. So than the the media went bat sht crazy (can't attack a New Yorker OMG). Which lead to first take where I was with Sherman until the I'm better at life than you. He came across as a child, who couldn't express himself instead of a young man who by all accounts I've read/heard is very bright. I'm just to the point where I want it to be about the team now and winning a ring, nothing else. Save it till you won something than no ones going to be able to ignore you ever again.

My thing with skip bayless was skip saying he didn't know who he was. I thought comparing him to Revis was a slight stretch, but skip was asking to be called out on it when his job is to know sports and he doesn't know who one of the better corners in the league is. That was stupidity.

As for the mouth, as long as you back it up on the field, I don't mind it. He is controlled enough it's not an issue.

There is just too much info out there that speaks specifically to the use of this drug in American colleges for me to be ok with your little slight about the Seahawks.

He was mistaken, A more accurate statement would be that a significant, and rising, % of college students, including the athletes, has used Adderol.

Let me know if you need more help figuring out how this pertains as you seem to be uninformed.

By all accounts he's a good dude. I just wish he'd keep the talking to a minimum in the off-season. I don't know exactly how much time we've spent discussing something he's said this winter/spring, but it's been way too much time. I think we've almost spent more time talking about that than the off-season acquisitions we made and how they're gonna fit with this team on the field. When everyone talked about how the media didn't pay enough attention to the Seahawks, I was hoping that stuff like this wouldn't be the reason that they started paying attention.

Watching Sherman interact with team mates on the Real Rob Report makes seem like a real talker but likeable guy.

I really don't worry to much about the reaction he gets, because at the end of the day it will be the results on the field that matter and I for one think the Seahawks are going to have a great season. Why not have some fun on the way.

If I had to choose from the two extremes (extreme loudmouth, or extreme silence) I would prefer the loudmouth, there is more content from which to be entertained there.

I just wish he could have delivered the Bayless diatribe with an affable demeanor instead of the flared nostril tight lipped angry looking guy that I perceived. The delivery, more than the content, was my issue.

I'd have to disagree with you that it keeps him from getting the respect he deserves and I think Sherman would also. He spoken many times that he got shafted in the draft because he didn't get the PR that some other players did. He is making sure that doesn't happen again. Jikkle was point on about the matter.

Whenever I see someone outside of Seattle talk about Sherman it's never in a positive light. What I'm trying to say is that it seems like his smack talk makes people think about his mouth, not his ability.

Yes they think about his mouth first, but it forces them to look at his performance and he does perform. Sherman felt like he performed in college but nobody noticed. There are many players that perform on the field that get overlooked due to various reasons...a dog team...being on small market team, or what ever. Sherman has spoken on this issue many times, believe me, he feels you need make people look and examine your performance in order to get the credit it deserves. That is exactly what he's doing. He made use of his Stanford education.
