I kind of expect Rodon back with the White Sox. By not attaching a draft pick to Rodon - the Sox will let Rodon market himself to find his value and the Sox will match if they want to play. The Lockout might help the Sox in that regard too -since time to get deals done will be compressed - and the Sox offer will look good to stay.

If Rodon does come back - it will be interesting to see if the Sox really believe Rodon can build his arm up to be good for 150 innings plus - or if they just decide to pitch him twice a month.

Sox sign another middle infielder to a minor league contract. I still think that is odd since the Sox have 4 guys - plus Romy Gonzales in the top 20 prospect who are at the AA level or ready to go higher - that they are loading up on middle infield prospect at this same level.

IMO - it is either crazy, or it is a sign the Sox plan to deal some of their middle infield prospects when things resume.

Perhaps the #1 question this offseason, 2nd base aside:

IF we either sign or trade for a FA starter, then this will likely cement the likelihood of Keuchel becoming trade bait. If not, my guess is we'll at the very least start '22 with him in the rotation. Altho it seems ages ago that he was actually our ace during the campaign, it's been only one season removed from this being so. Is there a rebound in the cards for this guy? That's definitely a TBD.

The perfect OF???

LOL, I think I'll file Fansided's take under *Hardly*, but then again all things considered - and this begins first and foremost with Jerry's lack of willingness to part with big $$$ to sign top-of-the-line FAs - Conforto just might be a good fit. I thought prior to the start of this past season, he might have fallen into that unsignable category had he replicated numbers from his more recent seasons, but 2021 wasn't kind to him, stats-wise. The positive of this is it undoubtedly lowered his contract value. Hence, Jerry's wallet comes into play here.

So what does Conforto bring to the table? Entering his age 29 season, he brings a needed lefty bat which definitely has some pop in it. Between 2017-2019 he averaged 30 dingers. In the shortened '20 campaign, he only jacked 9, but this would have projected to around 25 had it been a full season. And despite a fairly crappy '21, FanGraphs has his him projected for '22 to smack around 25, not to mention a 2.5 WAR - hardly all-star figures, but very serviceable. His career 1.85/1 K-BB ratio is actually pretty damn good. Defensively, he's rated average at best, but while primarily playing in RF, he also has extensive history at the other two OF spots, so he brings versatility to the table. If the Sox are hunting for a RFer, and I'm not sure they are nor should be, we could certainly do a lot worse than signing this guy.

For those of us who were wondering/hoping if there could be a Keuchel trade on the horizon, this article might pop that balloon:

Here's the 900lb gorilla catch......However, the problem with that club option is that it’s actually a club/vesting option. It becomes guaranteed if Keuchel pitches at least 160 innings in each of 2021 and 2022. He’s already hit the first of those benchmarks, as he threw 162 innings in 2021. Another season of 160 innings and that $20MM for 2023 becomes guaranteed.

To me, that is a potential trade killer unless the Sox agreed to eat a sizable portion of this mess.

No one is going to let him pitch another 160 innings like he got away with last year. He will have to be significantly better. I think he has a bounce back in him. He's a control pitcher when he is effective - last year he lost his control -and was ineffective. He can get his control back and his KOs will return. Keuchel has a lot of professional pride - he has the "want to" in getting back to form.

Anyone for a Chris Bassitt trade?

Assuming the A's are willing to trade him, one has to wonder what it would take to bring him back to the team of which he began his MLB career.
He's coming off the best season of his career, and since becoming a full time starter dating back to '19, his record has been 27-11, with an ERA of 3.26 - them's some serious stats. We should keep in mind that he's only signed thru this season, but at a paltry $8.8m. Talk about a bargain.

So the question is, again assuming the A's are in house cleaning mode, who would the Sox have to surrender in personnel in order to obtain the services of for all intents and purposes a rental, albeit a damn good one.

I mean, it was only the 2nd half where he fell apart. He had one bad half of a season after being rock solid in the first half, following up a helluva 2020 COVID shortened campaign.

People do realize that he's done that before, right? He followed up his Cy Young 2015 season with a 2016 that saw him post a 4.55 ERA and an 86 ERA+. He sort of recovered in the 2nd half of that season after his 1st half was what really resembled his collapse late in 2021. Still, though, he's very capable of doing that again.

Not only isn't he ancient. His pitching style does not rely on velocity and he is totally built to be effective into his mid and possibly even later 30's. I am tired of hearing the Buehrle comparison, but it isn't a bad one pertaining to this topic. Obviously, I'm not expecting him to be effective for THAT long. That's very, very rare. However, expecting that he will bounce back? That is an extremely fair take to put out there.

The Sox need him - so I hope he gets back into form. I'm one of those who think he can do it.

I'm riding the fence on this one. I definitely want Keuchel to better resemble the 2020 version of himself, but I'm not that optimistic he'll get er done.

Looks like the world's worst kept secret is about to happen:

And another article nested within the above one:

While the Sox don't exactly have the Cuban market cornered, they are without question MLB's #1 landing spot for them. And it's to our good fortune they are.

So all you armchair GMs, would you trade any of these guys?

First one's a no-brainer. Trade the mofo already. But the other 8 all bring various skills and potential with their game. I'd say out of this remaining bunch Burger would be the most expendable, possibly followed by Kath.

The article only mentions these 9, but we have other prospects and some who have made brief appearances in the bigs who could be packaged in the right deal, ie Matthew Thompson, Andrew Dalquist, Micker Adolfo, Jimmy Lambert, Jonathan Stiever, among others.

I would not trade Vaughn or Sheets. Both those guys have star level player ceilings. Crochet is tradeable if the Sox have decided he isn't going to be a starter - ever. I'd keep Crochet.

If the Sox decided to sign a Schwarber - or an established RF - who has power from the left side - then Sheets would be expendable - since they signed another guy for his slot.

Cespedes - I don't think dimmed his stock or improved it in the ABs he got in the minors. He's an interesting athlete. I can see the Sox trading him, or the opposite treating him like a gold mine and keeping him.

I hope the Sox have a pretty good plan, because things will start moving very fast when they get a labor agreement. I also - bet they are all cheating and having off the record discussions about player availability.

You guys make Jerry and Co. proud pulling the "It can work with Keuchel" card. I commend you all for trying to make mental lemonade out of our typical Free Agent/offseason lemonade and look forward to falling on the knife with you when/if he doesn't return to form.
