on a very micro level here in bc…

You know what is sad all the unvaccinated COVID deniers will focus on the 2% but in the same sentence go on about how COVID only killed .02% of the population.

We can’t ever fix stupid but for us vaccinated folks all we can do is continue to get the booster if/when necessary to help eradicate this. And eventually when all those Morons (aka Kevin Sorbo’s) die off.

Yeah, but even if we can nudge that up to 80% with a second dose (I mean, if you got the first dose, it stands to reason you would go get a second dose), I think we'll be in pretty good shape.
I think we'll get towards 90%. The polls in the middle of the pandemic that were taking opinions on "covid skepticism" in Canada usually had it at just under 10% of the population.

There's also some extenuating circumstances regarding people who haven't gotten the shots yet - my mom, for example, had some pretty major surgery ten years ago and is checked up on regularly by her specialist at Toronto General and they advised her early on when the vaccine came out not to get it until they had more info, that a few people who had similar issues but were more vulnerable had reacted badly. Then about a month ago they advised her that, in short, they don't know whether she should get the shot and it's up to her (nice passing the buck lol) and then finally yesterday she texted me saying her doctor called her and told her she should urgently go get vaccinated. I'm guessing there's a lot of people in that same boat.

I've bolded your mistake. ;)

You're right most probably will get the second dose,, but never underestimate people's ability to become doctors, teachers, and constitutional lawyers on the spot and with very little information. Horray!

first dose intake has stagnated ... the 7 day rolling average of first doses given out across canada has decreased by 10k each week for the past 3 weeks (66k, 54k, 43k on June 25, July 2, July 9). Its gonna be tough sledding to get above 85%.

I think the holdouts right now are the kids 12-17 (and by that i mean the kids parents). Maybe its way too anecdotal but I know alot of families who are not getting their kids vaccinated "for now" even though the parents are in some cases fully vaccinated :noidea: . My wife was one of them (shes on insta way too much :L )That might change and things might pick up over the next couple months as we go into a new school year and school districts "perhaps" (probably not) require kids to be vaccinated.

As in.... I want to wait and see if the delta variant can kill my kid "for now"... and then we'll get the vaccine later once the danger has mostly subsided.

anti vaxxer misinfo is insidious on social media ... everyone wants to protect their kids ... all it takes is one (non fact based) story saying the covid vaccine sterilizes kids and the normally lucid soccer moms (and hockey moms out there ... yes Im talking to my wife in case she reads this lol) lose their minds

Oh believe me i know. My brother/sister in law are anti-vaxers. They are also vegans. Figure that one out. They haven't gotten themselves vaccinated against COVID. They also haven't vaccinated their child (3 years old) against ANYTHING. Recently, their child was sick and had a fever of 102 and they wouldn't even give him a child's tylenol. It's absurd. I get it, Western medicine overprescribes medicine - I can't say you're wrong. That doesn't mean that the once or twice a year when your kid has a high fever you shouldn't slip them a few Tylenol to prevent, ya know... brain damage and death.

It's gotten pretty nuts and you see people go down these rabbit holes. It boils down to this.... I read something on the Internet, so now I'm smarter than you. I'm not saying everyone who believes this stuff is stupid, but I have yet to meet someone who has high level academic achievement amongst their ranks. And yeah, getting an advance degree doesn't mean you're smart or better than someone, but when an entire group is ALL underachievers and the other side has ALL the overachievers.... THAT SHOULD FUCKING TELL YOU SOMETHING!

To be fair, I legitimately tried to research vaccinations to see if I could find anything someone should be legitimately scared of and the evidence just is not there from ANY reliable source. Too many vaccines now? Nope, we just know more and scientists think our body can handle 1,000-10,0000 vaccines without issue. What about the mercury? It's not the dangerous kind for starters, and a baby consumes more through breast milk than they do from a full vaccine cycle. What about autism? No scientific link, just two poor tests that likely simply signaled better identification of autism than anything else.

for your bold part imo I think theres more numbers of the "I read something on the internet, so now I'm irrationally worried and am having trouble seeing the benefit of any of it all"

My wife "caved" fairly quickly because of equal parts me bombarding her with REAL information as I came across it, me publicly ridiculing her stance in the company of friends (lol) and my son constantly asking her ...

correction ... if the trending holds and the rolling average of daily first doses decreases by 10k a week, we will be looking at 78.706 % of the eligible cdns 12+ having received one dose by July 30

we are at 78.692% today :ohwell:

But Jerry has a huge American flag on his truck and was one of the smartest kids in the remedial group in high school! So what if he needed two attempts to pass his functional English test, even God gave Jesus a second try!

It's a vicious cycle...anti-vaxxer parents cause brain damage in their children, creating more anti-vaxxers.
