influenza/pneumonia numbers too ... maybe those are coming from red states since "the flu" was a nothingburger in 2020

/somewhat aside... Im not sure what the "official" death record reporting was for my aunts covid death in Italy last year but she had covid, remarkably recovered after a week long battle and tested negative 3 straight days ... then died less than a week later "of pneumonia"

Sorry to hear about your aunt, jstew. Similarly, I had a friend who's father died of "heart failure." He had COVID and was on a ventilator for awhile. He was in the hospital for over a month and then finally released when he seemed stable. He continued to have issues over the next couple months and then died suddenly from heart issues. I don't know how his death was classified and I don't know if you can say COVID killed him, but if he never had COVID he'd probably be alive today. So tough to know how true these numbers are. At best, COVID was a major killer over the past 18 months. At worst, it's far more reaching than the data shows on it's face.

I also see "unintentional deaths" are way up over the last 5 years as Instagram and cliffs continue to work together to thin the herd.

Lets not forget "Cause of Death" is strictly what is put on the death certificate. I can guarantee if they counted the number of times COVID contributed to a death it would be a majority of the total deaths in 2020.
