Because I actually have I life outside the message boards and can see things in perspective. I work in healthcare and have had to cover for my mom in the last week after she had surgery. And my grandpa is also in the process of being admitted in the nursing home I've worked tirelessly for all summer long in the heat and in a mask that adds to the heat. So yeah - I, HurricaneDij, in fact am part of the diminished employment rate during the pandemic. Who would have thought?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what teams a give posters favor.

- Outside of the Pacers and Nuggets, I favor the midwest teams when my teams aren't playing.
- You've favored the Warriors from 2015-2019 as well as whatever teams have the most stars in the biggest markets.
- In addition to the Cavs, shaneman also favors whatever team LeBron plays for. Because we all know guys who are strictly Cavs fans (i.e. Wiggy and dtgold) are scoffed upon.
- msgkings favors the most glamorous teams from California (i.e. the Warriors and the Lakers)
- And yes, I'm sure @trojanfan12 holds plenty of reverence for Pat Riley for all he's done for the Lakers back in the day.

It really could not be more simple.

The first half of your post has nothing to do with my question.

And yeah, I like watching good teams and good players. I love the Warriors brand of basketball, so of course I will favor teams I enjoy watching after mine is done (which is usually very early.

That is what every fan does.

But you need to let people speak for themselves. You even went so far to call me a liar multiple times about who my favorite team was.

^^^This^^^

I have always said that I'm a basketball fan before I'm a Lakers fan. Just as I'm a football fan before a Seahawks fan and a college sports fan before a USC fan.

Like you said, I enjoy watching good teams and good players. My favorite player in the league (Kawhi) doesn't even play for my favorite team and I'm actually rooting against him right now. But he's still my favorite player because I love how he plays.

My favorite team or player doesn't have to be involved in a game for me to enjoy it. Like you said too, I think most fans are like that.

I'm kind of sad I wasn't targeted in this one, lol.

Eddie Jones helping to bridge the gap between Lakers and Heat. Also some guy named Shaq did ok there too. Love to see it.

Between Riley, Eddie Jones and Shaq...the Heat owe all of their success to the Lakers.

Ratings in a free fall after the boycott. If the players had gone forward with the LBJ idea of boycotting the rest of the playoffs the League would have been locked out and by the time they played again they wouldn't be able to outdraw team bass fishing

Yeah summer league is ass unless there's a Zion or Lebron in summer league during their rookie year. I stopped watching Heat summer league games like 2 or 3 years ago.

I watch the Lakers every year in summer league. Love to see the guys who could step up and fill a role in the upcoming season.

The only reason why the NBA is allowed to play is because it is controlled be China.

All sports are currently active. MLB, NBA, NHL, PGA, Nascar, Tennis, etc, with the NFL starting in a few days.

Just don't go blaming others when you keep responding to this guy.

While the OP's post is definitely extreme, parts of it are true. The bubble playoffs are definitely watered down and moreso than any previous version of NBA basketball.

No one believed me when I said it before, but I worry we'll see a rash of injuries like never before during a condensed 2020-21 season. We all should remember what happened to Derrick Rose during the lockout-condensed 2012 season...

You're going to base a theory on Derrick Rose's injury history? Instant fail.

i think those day games were killing the overall ratings. now that most everything is evenings, the ratings should even out.

It really could not be more simple.

And I've never made that a secret. I've been a Cavs fan since I was very little but when you're a kid you just cling to certain teams or players bc they are exciting. For me, it was a player.

I love watching the Lakers with a young Kobe and Shaq. I loved watching Brett Favre...and the Packers. I love watching the Titans with McNair and Ohio St alum Eddie George...but that's what happens for most when you are young. Most settle into what you know and where your heart is...for me it's Cleveland but if Cleveland isn't in the playoffs, everyone ROOTS for some other team, whether it is bc of player with college roots, a young team you want to see succeed, etc. For me, it isn't a team, it's a player.

I remember the first time I saw Lebron...he was only a sophomore in high school. Our basketball coach was friends' with Keith Dambrot, St. V's coach...so we went to one of his practices. I hadn't even heard of him yet but you could tell he was going to be special just by watching him at practice. Then my dad and I starting going to his games...then he got drafted by the Cavs. Of course I root for him but that is different than rooting for another team. Everyone has their reasons though but I don't remember Trojan saying one of his favorite teams was Miami. Bc he likes Pat Riley then the Heat is a fav team of his? lol There is a difference.
There are fans that don't like a particular team in a sport so they root for a player they like or enjoy watching...then root for that team. I was never a Heat fan, I was never a Laker fan but I root for Lebron....everyone knows that. So you saying I am not strictly a Cavs fan is wrong..plain and simple. It means nothing if another team wins a title and Lebron is on that team, I'm happy for him but I feel nothing. When the Cavs won a title...I was speechless, shed a little tear (I can admit that) but yeah that's why there is a difference.

Questions for you:
If Denver won a title would you feel that same way I did when the Cavs won?
Same as above for Indiana?
Does your heart pound in the final seconds of a big game for one of these franchises and not the other?

Reflect on these for a bit.

I can't guarantee but fairly certain that when Trojan sees Miami in a close game, his heart doesn't pound out of his chest but for the Lakers that's a different story.

Trying to slyly call people bandwagon fans isn't your role especially when that person seems to certainly only have one favorite team. I've done it before to that one chick that used to post here and probably was wrong for it but she went from a Lakers fan to a W's fan as soon as they started winning, kind of a different case, but still probably should have stayed in my line.

Main Point: I think you are confusing having a favorite team and rooting for a team

Exactly. I'm a Lakers fan, but even before that, I'm a basketball fan. The Lakers don't have to be playing for me to watch and enjoy a game.

If the Lakers aren't playing, then I will usually pick a team to root for and it could be for any number of reasons.

For example, if the Suns are playing, I'm probably rooting for them because they are my 2nd favorite team. If the Heat are playing, I might be rooting for them because I like the team they have, the way they play and I always will want Riley to do well because of what he did for the Lakers.

Sometimes, I might root for a team because of a player I like being on that team. If, for example, the Clippers get there and play anyone but the Heat, I'm likely going to be rooting for them even though I don't really like them because Kawhi is my favorite player.

Pretty simple really.

I root for teams I enjoy watching. But I don’t really care if those teams win or lose.

Been a long time since the Wizards were relevant enough to generate that feeling you are talking about.

But man, watching the Nats in the World Series and UVA in the NCAA tournament the last few years?

Crazy. That is what a fan experience is really about.
