You do know they have road and home splits on players. That will probably give you a good idea on the players who benefited.

Well that's the thing. Jose Altuve had a higher BA and a higher OPS on the road in 2017 than at home. So did Alex Bregman.

And if it weren’t helping the hitters — they would have stopped using it immediately. That’s just common sense.

That logically makes sense. But it is also possible that they only used it in high leverage situations which would make it tougher to spot. Which is why we can't just dismiss the impact of the sign stealing.

Except they didn't steal it from someone else. No one had it and they cheated to get it.
They stole the money given to the winners. They stole other teams chances of advancing to the World Series and they stole a championship. What happens if you win a car race and they inspect the car and see you altered something. They take away your win. What happens if a boxer tests positive for steroids right after the fight? His title is taken way. The car mechanics can't argue we would have won anyway. The boxer can't say I feel I would have beat them anyway. They cheated . The stole the other persons chances. Cody Bellinger doesn't have a world series championship. Jose aluve and the rest of the Astros stole his fair chance to win won.

Well unless you did the exact same games with the same exact pitchers at the same time with the same weather conditions without the bangs and the whistles and buzzers there's no way of telling how much it helped but every player that .......isn't and Astro will tell you knowing beforehand what pitch is coming gives you a big advantage. Now you might foul off the pitch or you might hit it at someone or even miss it but there's no argument ( from active players) that it would help and all it takes is a few extra hits and games are tilted because of this.
Just say you don't care or don't want to hurt the Astros feelings or you're an Astro fan in denial but they did it and yes it helps .

So we should just ignore the stats and go with our gut? In baseball?

I've already said I don't care. I certainly don't care about the Astros or their feelings.

But I don't want an entire season of hearing about this as the only thing that will matter.

If a team cheated to get to the world series and cheated again during the world series they stole the championship. Their stats are worthless.

Say you’re in high school taking a test. You cheat on that test; you get a 100. Whatever your grading scale is, you get the top grade. You get called into the principal’s office the next week, right: “Hey, you cheated on the test. We caught you. But we’re gonna fire a teacher instead of firing you.” So now you’re reaping all the benefits of that and now you’re applying for college.

If the teacher condoned your cheating in order to make things look better for them, the teacher WILL get fired. In fact there are numerous examples of teachers cheating and giving students grades. In those situations, the teacher gets fired and nothing happens to the students.

I think I will listen to the best player in baseball rather than a guy at home on a keyboard.

Mike Trout on the Astros: “They cheated...I don’t agree with the punishment...I lost respect for some of those guys.”

“Going up to the plate knowing what’s coming...that would be a lot of fun.”

But but but how do you know it's an advantage????LOL

Altuve was also a guy they said didn’t use it as much as others. But I’d be willing to bet once the playoffs started and the games meant something, they definitely used it for everyone.

And who is talking about dismissing the sign stealing? You hear how serious the players in the league are taking it, with their responses. They know firsthand how huge of an advantage is.

Media keeps saying this story is bad for baseball etc... this is the best thing to happen to league in awhile. Everybody loves cheering against the “evil” team. Astros roster is still loaded. It will keep fans invested in cheering against something even if their team sucks

Yes, baseball teams have been stealing signs and transmitting via buzzers since the beginning of baseball.

Maybe, but the students have to suffer the consequences of cheating.

My point about dismissing the sign stealing is that if you just looked at the numbers, there isn't much evidence to suggest that it achieved much. That could change and and we can't dismiss it simply because we have no evidence about the effect right now.

it is and it isn't... it is great entertainment right now... but once it dies down, it will just be another cheating scandal... baseball has a bad reputation, and it is not helping get new fans... only losing fans...

evidence doesn't matter, they lose the benefit of doubt...

if you are a teacher, and you catch a kid cheating on a test, do you have to prove how many questions he cheated on?? will you ever trust that kid again when he wanders his eyes even a little??

Ask the Blue Jays pitcher who is suing Houston right now. They used their sign stealing/trash can against him — bombed him in less than one inning of work and he was sent down after the game, never to reach the MLB again and is now out of baseball.

It isn’t just the ‘effect’, but what it did to opposing pitchers.

Yes, if there is a fly on his back buzzing in the middle your spaghetti, is it okay if the waiter says it didn’t touch all of the spaghetti?

I don’t see this dying down for a long time. The players are pissed, the fans are pissed.
I know Houston doesn’t come to Detroit til like August and fans are already lining up to call out the hypocrite Verlander.

MLB f’ed up by letting the players off scot-free.

but that is a BS lawsuit... and the lawsuit won't go anywhere... a failed career can not be pinpointed on one bad game... this is more of a pile on Houston lawsuit...
