FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have signed free agent WR Demaryius Thomas and re-signed restricted free agent DB Jonathan Jones. Terms of the contracts were not announced.

Thomas, 31, is a veteran of nine NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos (2010-18) and the Houston Texans (2018). The 6-foot-3, 229-pounder originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick (22nd overall) by Denver in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Georgia Tech. He was traded by Denver to Houston on Oct. 30, 2018. Thomas was released by Houston on Feb. 12, 2019. He has played in 132 regular-season games with 118 starts and has 688 receptions for 9,330 yards and 62 touchdowns. Thomas has started all 10 postseason games he has played in and totaled 53 receptions for 759 yards and six touchdowns. He was a member of Denver’s Super Bowl 50 championship season.

Thomas owned a five-year 1,000-yard receiving season streak that spanned through 2016 campaigns and also earned five consecutive Pro Bowl berths during that time. He established Denver’s single-season record with 1,619 receiving yards in 2014. Thomas joined Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice as the only NFL players with three consecutive 1,400-yard and 10-touchdown seasons from 2012 through the 2014 season.

Last season, he started the first eight games of the year for Denver, finishing with 36 receptions for 402 yards and three touchdowns, before being trading to Houston, where he started in seven games and finished with 23 receptions for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He was injured in the regular-season finale and was placed on injured reserve for the playoffs.

Jones, 25, is a veteran of three NFL seasons with New England after he originally joined the team as a rookie free agent out of auburn on May 6, 2016. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder has played in 48 regular-season games with 10 starts and has 92 total tackles, 2½ sacks, four interceptions, 16 passes defensed and 18 special teams tackles. He has also played in seven postseason games with two starts and has added 11 total tackles, one sack, one pass defensed and five special teams tackles.

Last season, Jones played in all 16 games regular-season games with five starts in the nickel defense and finished with a career-best 50 total tackles, 1½ sacks, three interceptions, seven passes defensed and six special teams tackles. He started in two of three postseason games, including the Super Bowl LIII win vs. L.A. Rams and totaled 10 tackles, one sack and one pass defensed.

Veteran wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has a new home.

Thomas was signed by the New England Patriots, the team announced on Tuesday. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Thomas signed a one-year contract worth up to $6 million.

Thomas' signing comes a week after he visited with the Patriots.

The addition of Thomas reunites him with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who served as the head coach with the Denver Broncos from 2009-10. Thomas started his career with Broncos in 2010 before being traded to the Houston Texans on Oct. 30, 2018.

With the 31-year-old Thomas, the Patriots have a player who once produced five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (2010-16). Whether Thomas will be ready for football activities in the immediate future, though, is another matter.

Thomas suffered a torn Achilles while with the Texans on Dec. 23, but NFL Network's James Palmer previously reported Thomas should be back sooner than expected.

The Patriots also announced the re-signing of defensive back Jonathan Jones, a restricted free agent.

Hey you never know about Thomas. Could be a decent signing... I mean he will be hungry to play and wants a ring.. It also would not surprise me if the Patriots cut him as well.

He's apparently recovered enough for BB. I'm sure that he had to at least run the length of the field at full speed and do a few cuts before Bill would commit up to $6M if he can produce like the DT that once patrolled Mile High.
If he can be productive then I'm all in.

He already has a ring from Denver. $6M seems a bit steep for this late in FA:scratch: I would've expected 1/2 that, maybe $4M.
Big target and Josh knows him so who knows he could be a Randy Moss-like vet for NE?

Edelman, Gordan and DT:nod: that's a nice group of receivers. Throw in Hockerson (sadly I don't think NE jumps up to get him), Fant or Irv Smith and they will be a match up nightmare.

*another ring... My bad.... Yeah not sure why the price tag was that high on him.. Would have thought they would have brought him in on a prove it deal ($2-3 million). I feel stupid, who is Hockerson?

*TJ Hockenson, TE, Iowa. Currently the #1 projected TE in this years draft.

Contract details? Guaranteed? Incentives are king in NE contracts.....

The DT signing is not the Randy Moss signing. To me DTs skill sets have dropped of a lot, now maybe there is a chance that had to do with the QBs or the system. He is a reasonable signing a seasoned vet that know the game, a security blanket for the position. Now if our resident addict is allowed to play this year then this signing becomes a little more scary.

Mosses skills had also diminished prior to arriving in Foxboro and after departing. I am no way implying Thomas is the next Moss. If NE gets 3/4 of Mosses production from Thomas this is a very good signing.

I agree it's a decent signing but we'll have to see about great, to many intangibles. Does the recovery hold up, how many steps has he lost, can he pick up the playbook, can he get his timing with Brady together, can he play selfless football?

I don't think we will see Gordon play this year but if he comes back it would be a nice set of WRs and if any of the new TE signing pan out all the better.

Yes all things to be weary of especially the injury.

He played under McDaniels before so I don't think the playbook will be an issue.

We can only hope Gordon cleans up long enough and Czar Roger lets him play. That offense could be very scary and possibly the best Brady has had.

Very palatable contract structure. He basically has to be in his prime DT to get the $6M

New Patriots WR Demaryius Thomas' 1-year deal is HEAVY on "we'll see" type parameters ...

$150K to sign.
$150K reporting bonus.
$1.2 million base.
$1.406 million in per-game rosters.
$750K for 60 catches.
$750K for 800 yards.
$750K for 1000 yards.
$750K for 1200 yards.
