How long does Philly stick with Wentz before going back to Foles?

somebody doesn't understand 5th year options...
In Foles and Wentz case It's quite simple if the QB doesn't sign he pays $2M back to sign anywhere else. Good luck with that.

Someone's getting angry. Careful you'll use up your allottment of face palms. Better to get a Snickers.

Trading Wentz would garner more draft picks to fill the holes but the FO seems dead set on Wentz starting. Of course they could still kick that tire around to see what interest is out there when the time comes and who knows, maybe the FO shocks the world and trades Wentz. The feeling I get is they let Foles walk into FA to get his payday. If they tag Foles and have to cut half the team, I guess they become favorites to land top 5 in the 2020 draft.

you think a team that just played with almost an entire secondary of practice squad scrubs is scared of losing a few overpaid old guys? Dream on.

holy shit you're dumb.

Foles contract doesn't have a "5th year option". Foles contract has an option for both the player and team to extend.

Wentz contract has an actual 5th year option that is a team option only. Wentz has nothing to sign.

again... holy shit you're dumb.

I'm with you the FO can't let Wentz walk after what they invested in him. Back to that saving face thing. Imagine if Carson left and became the next phenom like the Eagle fans keep telling us he is.

Unlike the FO, I don't care what people think. I'd trade Wentz and take what I can. Foles is a good QB maybe not top 10 but decent enough with the right players around him. Hell I'd kick the tires on him when Brady retires.

Worse is if Wentz became a phenom for either Giants or Redskins. PE1 would be stuck in the middle telling us he was always right and cursing the TV while Wentz crushes the secondary.

I do think Foles could be back half top 10 cause the system in place works perfect for him. He would fit in NE nicely.

I'd hate to see Foles go to a division rival as well, but he deserves to pick his own path.

The 13M over the cap includes Foles 20M contract.

There going to have to cut or renegotiate a number of contracts then try to fill those positions with minimum salary guys and the draft.

$7M under when they don't pick up Foles option... still too tight for the guys they have to sign. Get another 8M back if they move on from Peters. 6.5M back if Kelce retires.

They'll be fine.

Ummm....Yes. They still need some veteran leadership so need to keep some over paid old guys. Get rid of them to fit Foles under the cap than you pretty much have a full team of mid level scrubs and this years draft picks. Anyways, I don't see Howie tagging Foles.

Agree 100%. The guy will never have to buy another dinner or drink in town even if he rips it up for a division rival.

I did misspeak. When the tag was brought into the discussion.

Foles can refuse and pay back $2M. He gone.

Just like me. Going to walk down the beach and get some lunch now.

Oh and enjoy letting Wentz hit FA if he doesn't get a new contract this year.

no way they keep both on the roster. They need to move some money around to make room for Carson. Can't dedicate 20M to a backup when that big payday is coming.

Do you need me to explain what a 5th year option is again?

I was wrong on this... forgot the 1.8M in dead money for Foles, so its closer to $5M after they don't pickup his option.

The 5th year option is huge. All first round picks have a 5th year option for the club under the new rookie contract scale. It’s why 1st round picks are so valuable. A player taken in later rounds only have 4 year deals. That’s why the cowboys for example will have to pay Dak before the eagles must pay wentz

I agree and that's why letting Foles walk is really the only option. The FO has a lot of work to do trying to fill in those gaps.

and the scale for that option moves based on the draft position. Top 10 pays average of top 10 at the position. 11-32 is the average of something like 3rd -25th salaries.

Besides Foles, Brandon Graham will be the biggest loss, but he is going to want more than the Eagles can afford.

Yep. Great player and will miss his hour show on 94.1.
Eagles aren't going to have a whole lot of cap room so this years and next years drafts are going to be huge with Wentz's contract extension lurking around the corner.

That I didn’t know. I thought the number was built into the contract (ie a much lower agreed upon number). I didn’t know it was based upon the above.
