I have gotten pit passes at both Nascar and Indy. All the drivers I have met were somewhere besides the pits except for A J Foyt. I was standing next to a car waiting on my wife to come back when some guy comes up and starts talking about the car. I was carrying on the conversation with him, but watching out for my wife so never looked at him. When he asked me if I wanted an autograph, I looked over and A J Foyt was standing next to me.

I caught his qualifying yesterday. Starting 26 out of 40. Was asking about which lines were faster while he was out there mid-lap, so it was pretty clear he had very limited experience on the track, if any.

Of course while KR was in a new car on a new track, the announcers used it as an opportunity to play up how ‘world-class’ the drivers at the top of the field are.
