Yes they are. Those guys are all bad.

I'd go with mediocre. Well, there's different ranges there. What's funny is outside of Abdelkader they're all the same damn player. Why in the world did anyone think a team full of role players would win? We can kill a good penalty.

USA could have used a little injection of Kessel today.

Hahahahahahahahahahahhahah, what a team. Seriously, USA Hockey needs this. (It's not the real USA Hockey, right?) regardless this is what they need. This can be their lesson on how to succeed at top hockey. The answer isn't freaking grinding the shit out of your opponent. It's giving yourself the best chance to win by scoring goals. And by putting a coach in place who believes that. Quick over Schneider is laughable. Jack Johnson over Buff is laughable. Not taking Tyler Johnson, Phil Kessel (obviously he's recovering now, but still), Kyle Okposo, all while taking Dubinsky, Abdelkader, Backes, Kesler, Callahan. Those guys aren't bad, but they're absolutely worse options than the aforementioned. On international stage I'd take those three over all but a few US forwards (Kane, Oshie, Stepan, Pavelski, probably Patches). So I'm honestly enjoying this shitshow.

You seriously think Schneider is better than Jonathan Quick?

Jack Johnson is rubbish

I appreciate the effort to class it up, but the proper turn of phrase is "Jack Johnson Sucks".

The thing is, this isn't USA Hockey. Not what they're teaching kids. I've made it to level 4. I will be taking it to level 5 by next spring. I've read all the books, been over the drills, etc. Those kind of plugs, that kind of bang 'em hockey, the flowless pressure game... it's not what they teach the kids.

I mean, yeah, they teach kids tight checking and how to attack, but from a young age they teach creativity. Thinking quickly. Skill development as a lead in to systems. First you learn the skill, then you develop it to get faster at it, THEN you figure out where to use that skill in the team game. Crosschecking guys in the back, blocking shots leaving the slot open to hit a guy in the corner.

And you know, in the last few years of coaching clinics I've been to, they always show videos where some USA coaches talk about things or show off drills. And it's various American born coaches. College coaches, and guys who've made it to the top level. I've seen Mike Sullivan, Lavy, Bylsma, Todd Richards... even Lou Lamoriello. Never once have I seen any talk or drill running by Torts.

On top of being a horrible human being, USA Hockey has to realize he's a shit coach.

Canada's starting roster against the Czech Republic tonight has a cap hit of 153 million. The Czechs are cap compliant at 65 million.

Seguin has broken heel from USA game.
not for how long he's fucked Dallas.
so it was Suter who tripped Seguin on a icing call that break Seguin's heel.

runs in the family, I guess.

You seriously think Schneider is better than Jonathan Quick?

Schneider is woefully under rated, and Quick is good but severely overrated because of his team's success. I'd also play Bishop before Quick. Schneider is very consistent, Quick is not. When he's hot he's hot, but then you have days like today where it's 3 goals on first 9 shots. Quick has career .916% Schneider is .925%. Quick has better defensemen in front of him, although both are definitely on teams that love to insulate the goalie.

Bouwmester seems misplaced on this team...but not that it matters much when you're loaded.

When did Sid get so good?

/must be his wingers

Noooo no no...he needs gritty wingers. He needs Dupuis! He's only good with Dupuis!

But really, he looks fantastic. Sure hope this keeps up.
