Kesler is good at face offs and chirping and if I learned one thing in the NHL this year it's that winning the opening face off of overtime is the most important aspect of the game. Therefore, not only is the Kesler inclusion above Phil warranted, Kesler is one of the most integral pieces of Team USA and should at worst be wearing an A.

No Kessel is USA hockey continuing their "we need a team, not the best players" idiocy (which I bought into, like a fool).

Be positive... that kind of team building can turn out a lot worse than it did for you

The stupidest thing about this... it's not that many games, so it's far from a guarantee that everyone will do what they do. So what do you do if the guys who you've picked as your "scorers" have a bad week and you don't have other scorers on the team to step in? Try to win every game 1-0?

And block a lot of shots.

I literally had to google this...

What, do you think that guys like Ron Francis and Mark Messier could be relied on to kill penalties? That is highly specialized shit.

And now I'm going to change the subject, because I saw something that I just couldn't believe. The craziest thing I've ever seen in hockey.

Mark Messier got Lady Byng votes. In 3 different seasons.

Yeppppp. Exactly. I imagine the Olympics are the same (I don't recall the setup for this tourney), and the US didn't learn to simply take talent. Score goals. Because there's too much damn talent in this tournament to win 1-0 or 2-1.

I thought that in 2010 the US simply tried to put together the team that they thought was best equipped to beat Canada, similar to what Canada did in '98 after the USA beat them in '96. But there are simply too many good teams in this tournament to do something like that.

Maybe I don't watch the guy enough, but seems like he'd be further down the snubbed list. Marchand should probably be on it, no? Nash too. Duchene. Those two were pretty good in Sochi.

I would also add Claude Giroux and Joe Thornton, pix. And if you add Jumbo Joe, maybe you also add Patty Marleau.
