Why Tim Miles Must Stay

I posted about this over on the princess board as well, and thought I would post here about it. People are calling for Doc Sadler's head......I think it's bull. I think most people that are calling for his head don't follow Nebraska basketball close enough to know what's really going on.

In their last game against Iowa State, Jeter and Standhardinger combined for almost 50 points. I know Jeter isn't a freshman, but Standhardinger is.....also Diaz (freshman) has put up big numbers all season.....also Eshaunte Jones (freshman) led the country for half this season in three point percentage......also Toney McCray will have 3 years coming off the medical reddy and Brandon Richardson has 2 more years. There are other freshman who show tons of potential as well including Ray Gallegos who hit a couple of big 3s in the final seconds of the Kansas State game the other night to tie up the game with 27 seconds left after Nebraska trailed (on the road) by 10 points with under 2 mins left.

These underclassman are leading this team right now, and while Nebraska has lost a ton of games this season, they have had a chance to win almost all of them. Playing in the best conference in the country, that is pretty good for a bunch of young guys. This season is the first season that Doc has actually seen any players all the way through from start to finish (Sek and Ryan will be graduating).

2 years from now under Doc we are going to be stacked. All we have to put up with is one more mediocre year, just be patient. 2011-2012 is when things are going to start really picking up for Nebraska. Let him build it.

Yeah, I completely agree. I love Doc, I think he really gets everything he can out of his players. I remember Nebraska playing Baylor I believe and in the last 5 mins I have never seen a team Let alone a Nebraska team play as hard on defense as they did. I know we have also been crushed but like JJM said this is a young team. So I have patience with this one. Baseball on the other hand.....

i think there is a curious lack of good recruiting

and yes i understand that nebraska is not a school big name kids are going to consider until the school proves it can win in basketball

but what decent coach just doesnt get a center for 2 years?
we were the shortest team in the country a year or 2 back, just curious......

lack of talent is obviously the reason why nebraska is bad, who do you blame that on? sadler? i like his work ethic

is there a recruiting directer? maybe we need to see who that is and consider replacing that person

Idk....the players who we have seen playing these last 4 years are players that Doc brought in his very first year here. The young players were actually a pretty good recruiting class.....I remember on **** a couple years back and they were talking up Doc and how he was able to get some of these "3 star" players to come to Nebraska. Those are pretty highly regarded recruits to be coming to Nebraska to play basketball. They may not be bluechips, but I have never seen a coach who gets his players to play the way that Doc has. Over the last 3 or 4 years Doc has had nothing to work with.....it's hard to recruit players here when Collier did what he did. However, now it is starting to pay off, and I guarantee you we will see it here in a couple of years.

It's a different deal than football here, it's gonna take more than 4 years to build.

The more I here people saying Doc needs to be gone the more I think he needs to stay. At the start of this year we were picked to finish 12th out of the 12 big 12 teams..........that means dead last. That is where we finished.....we didn't surprise anyone by going 2-14. In fact, we were estimated to win 3 or 4 games by the experts at the start of year. This was, afterall, the best conference put together in quite some time.....and we were, afterall, the youngest team in the country out of 300+ teams.

Now Doc is even starting to come out and say he feels like he should have done better.....I think he is full of shit himself. All those freshman on the floor, and still Nebraska could have easily won 6 or 7 conference games this year....they just didn't get it done, plain and simple.

Nevertheless, this may have been a very good thing that this happened. Doc is now laying out new rules that anybody who wants to remain a member of the team can't leave Lincoln this summer. He is going to make them stay and work their asses off all year long, and he is taking them overseas to play in a tournament this summer as well....maybe even as early as May. He said things are about to get a million times tougher on the boys in workouts, which includes more physical lifting. Basically they are about to go through hell....

They were in pretty good shape the way it was.....flying around on defense all the time. I can't imagine what kinda shape they will be in next year.

there is something to be said about a coach who allows such piss poor recruiting that you are the shortest team, or the youngest team in the country

and defending the coach by saying that everyone knew we were just going to suck, so its ok we only won 2 games in conference is just dumb.... you are defending a bad team by saying its ok that we were bad, other people thought we were going to be bad

im not saying fire doc, but something is fishy about the managment of this team

I think the real fishy part was how we lost about 10 players in the last 2 years....just up and gone. Either they couldn't hack it or......yea they couldn't hack it. They were all going into their 3rd and 4th years.....which is why we were so young this year. The freshman and sophies that we have in now are a part of a recruiting class that the ESPeeN "experts" actually talked about for quite a while during the college basketball recruiting special....praising Doc saying no Nebraska coach has ever been able to put together a class like that.

I think they are right....time will tell. I truely do believe some of these guys couldn't hack it though....I've seen Sadler in action before and he makes old Mike Leach look like a preschooler. You'd shit your pants if you seen him at practice....I did.
