... fake injuries.

All the rules benefit the offenses. That makes it tough on programs that build their teams around solid hard nosed defense. The irony in all this is the old saying of "defense wins championships." Maybe it's because of this, all the changes continue to work for the offenses. It's even caused a few coaches to make bold statements that the rules should be reviewed. They say these fast paced offenses could cause more injuries, takes coaching out of the game and creates a game that that doesn't resemble what has become so popular.

The game certainly has changed and that by itself is not an earth shattering statement. However, if that is the case why is it a big deal if defenses fake an injury. I hear all the fans of these type offenses complain, moan and joke about how a team lays there so the defense can rest. Oregon fans do it all the time. Texas A&M fans singled out Florida and LSU as teams doing it. They beat Alabama and complimented them for not doing it. So what!!! I think a defense has all the right in the world to lay there so his team can rest or, better yet, substitutions can be made.

It's not fair that a team might have different personnel or schemes to attack different situations but because the offenses control everything, they are unable to do something as simple as play THEIR game. Fans of these teams say they can always call timeout. Seriously? A team has a few precious timeouts and you think they should have to use it to do something as simple as switch personnel?

Think about it. I believe faking an injury is just a good strategy to slow down these offenses. It's one of the few ways to do it. My point is if it is ok for teams to run plays every 10 seconds then it should be ok for defenses to slow them down and substitute by doing this. Most of us associate a defense faking injuries at the end of the game with no timeouts and out of desperation. It seems wrong because our experience with it is associated with the above illustration but when it's to just slow down an offense that is strategically running plays quickly I think faking an injury becomes a strategy!

Why is it wrong or right? Let the piling on begin. Now if I get hurt I'm not calling a timeout, I expect the clock to stop!
-------
There have been other offenses that were viewed as a gimmick.. The wishbone, the triple option, et al. Eventually there were other teams that learned how to stop them....key word learned. Faking injuries isn't learning how to stop said offenses and as such sooner or later (probably sooner) faking injuries will start taking a toll on the teams that do this....probably more penalitites and deservedly so. Football is a game of strategy. If a team cannot figure out how to out play/out manuver an opponent, they are going to be left standing in the dust despite faking injuries.

Quoting this because you guys are missing out on a great interview.

Btw, he says he'd rather face up tempo than the triple option.

Wouldn't doubt that after the Georgia Southern game a few years back. People underestimate how fucking hard it is to play that shit on a week's rest when your players aren't familiar with it.

Yep, that little ole FCS scored more points on Alabama than any team that year. They scored 21, the next closest was 14.

When we scheduled them they were more of a passing team and they switched to the triple option between the scheduling and playing. I remember Kirby saying they wouldn't have even scheduled the game if they had known it was going to be triple option.

Those in the SEC don't really know what facing fast paced offenses week after week is; you only have Aggie as an example. They just brought what Big 12 D's face every week. In the BIg 12, no one fakes an injury on defense to slow down the offense, because, well, it's just not feasible. No doubt, the defenses of teams like Bama, LSU, Florida and SC are the strongest and best in CF today. But even Saban knows that to face 80-85 offensive plays a game, week in week out, would really adversely mess with his control of the game. That's why he is lobbying for rules changes to slow it down. But faced paced offense is here to stay, it's even moving to the NFL.

It is tough. GT could have very well doubled that score had it been against them. No shame in that though. A triple option isn't what Bama's defensive scheme is built to defend. If they played them 10 years in a row that would probably be a lot different, but anytime you play that shit sporadically and only with a week or less of prep time and I would definitely be worried no matter how good my team is.

I also doubt they spent much time game planning against it too, which probably contributed.

Still, not fun watching an FCS put up 21 points on you.

I would bet you were wrong on that now. Saban and co aren't stupid enough to come into a game against even an FCS triple option team without spending adequate time game planning. The players might not have bought into the amount of preparation needed because of the opponent's perceived lack of ability, but the coaches aren't that dumb. You have to be extremely disciplined in all aspects on every play against that shit, and if you aren't you are going to get burned.

I know that. My point was that I think it was a lack of respect from players in regards to the discipline necessary to not get burned (and also scheme) than lack of game prep from the coaching staff.
