I remember you being quite against B.Scott as our coach when the rumors started. Good to see you moved to the 'dark side' :thumb:

Byron strikes me as the type of coach who doesn't just see the team as another "paycheck". He actually wants the team to prosper and win, whether he's head coach, analyst, or a plain and simple fan!

Yep, he's won me over. No doubt. His love of this franchise goes a long way with me. I love what Phil did for the Lakers, but I always felt like he was just collecting rings and it didn't matter to him if it was the Lakers, the Bucks or whomever.

Byron seems like he wants to do this because he loves the Lakers and considers them his "home". That tells me that he wants to be the coach for a long time and not just until something better comes along or he doesn't feel he has a championship team anymore.

I think it is because they are only offering a one year contract.

1 year would be dumb on the Lakers part. Byron deserves to be part of the rebuilding process. A 3-4 year deal would be adiquite IMO.

:agree::10: I don't think the Lakers are in a hurry at all but Scott will be the coach. He does bleed Lakers and he is by far the best coach for the team. Look for it to happen real soon and then get his staff.

The coach that makes the most sense is Mark Madsen. The lakers do not want to committ to anything long term with free agent season looming. The lakers are thinking long term, time and time again they have proven that, so that has to always be top consideration when speculating.

All we have is speculation.

The Lakers are the only team in the league without a coach.
The Lakers are 1 week away from the start of august and we dont have a coach.
The Lakers have not released any statement as to why.
Of the remaining coaches, some have a lot of experience, but most have losing records, coupled with being fired by the most prestigious franchise in basketball (some already coming off firings) would not be the best career move for them.

Based on this im speculating the following.

They are offering a 1 year deal. At most 2 with a team option.
Most likely said coach will not receive the control he wants.
A guy within the organization would make most sense with these parameters.

The Glove working with Clarkson would be really cool. With what he's already shown, imagine what he could turn with someone like Payton teaching him.

The only way that would make that scenario even better is if news came out that Randle was working out with Kareem :hope:

Randle will be working with Madsen and possibly Kareem. B.Scott is a Lakers guy and he'll be amendable to letting Kareem and Madsen work with players if if theya re not officially on the staff. This is very similar to Rudy Tomjonovich is still being around doing work for Mitch as a consultant.

Byron Scott would be the best choice. He bleeds purple and gold, he is hungry for the job and a long time Lakers fan. If anyone can restore the franchise to greatness on the court, my choice right or wrong would be Byron Scott.
