There is an article this morning at Yahoo Sports (which isn't exactly the best source on the planet) suggesting that Doc Rivers doesn't want to coach a Donald Sterling owned team anymore. What that means exactly is anybody's guess or even if the article is legitimate to begin with. What, is Rivers going to walk across the hall and sign with the Lakers? Speculation abounds.

I heard this very same thing. Maybe the same fantastic journalist speculating the Lakers were looking to trade for Bledsoe!

Doesn't make sense to me. The deadline on the sale to Ballmer is Aug. 15th. That's still 3 weeks away and getting dangerously close to training camp time.

Also, if the deadline is missed, then the NBA will vote him out and he will take them to court. Why would Doc leave if Sterling is still the owner, but the league is doing everything in it's power to oust him?

How long after the deadline do the Lakers wait for Doc to decide?

What am I missing that makes this make sense? Doc's a great coach, but is he really THAT much better than Byron?

Doc is under contract. Which means the clippers would have to release him or trade him.

1. The clippers would never deal their head coach to their rivals
2. We have nothing to offer them that they want

Possibly Louie. TJF12. I don't think Doc Rivers is better than B. SCott and wouldn't want the Lakers to hire Rivers because the guy is a snake and bleeds green too much. After all, this was the guy that comes into the Staples Center and demands that the Lakers Champ banners be shrouded when his Clip joint would play their home games. I don't care how unloyal a fan can be, Rivers as a Lakers coach after what he did last year with the banners is simply wrong and absolutely a kick-in-the-gut to longtime Lakers fans like me.

His connection to his statement about leaving Sterling when Sterling is threatening to sue everyone involved doesn't make sense as you mentioned and that is my point. Rivers is a misguided snake who is playing this drama to everything that it is worth. No Thanks, I'll take a loyal Lakers guy like B. Scott any day and twice on Sundays before I even spit in the direction of Doc Rivers.

Yeah, I would agree. I really don't think he's better than Byron. Plus, how much of the work in Boston was the Big 3? Not saying he's bad, just don't think he's worth waiting that long or giving anything up for.

Plus the banner thing irritates me, too! :mad2:

I'm not convinced that Doc is that much better than Byron, if he's better at all. As of now, he has taken the best Clippers team in the history of that franchise exactly as far as Vinny Del ***** did.

I think it is because they are only offering a one year contract.

Link? I haven't heard anything about that. They are talking with Scott (according to KCal) about length of the contract (typically 3-5 years) and money (Kerr & Dead Fish got 5 mill so he probably wants more since he has more experience), they were expected to have a decision by the end of this week.

Three to five years makes way more sense than just one year, DJ. Way more sense, especially if they are in rebuild mode which they are although don't tell Kobe. Just kidding. lol.

Besides that we don't know how or when that will play out and while I get it that the Lakers didn't want to make a rush decision, time is beginning to run out of time. The Lakers need a coach in the next 30 days so that the guy can set his staff, have staff meetings and start planning out their strategies and etc. Doc Rivers might be there til the day the season starts and then jump ship and lets' not forget that he bailed on the Celtics when the Celtics still wanted him. I'm not excited about a coach that will bail when things get rough and I am convinced that Scott bleeds purple and gold - just saying

Well said. When all of this started, Byron was 3rd or 4th on the list of candidates that I'd like the Lakers to get. But he's won me over almost solely on how badly he seems to want the job. I believe that he truly loves this franchise and wants to be the guy to return it to where it belongs.

If they do hire B. Scott, I think he'll do better than most will give him credit for and the Lakers may see a 40-win season. They really should sign him to a 3-5 year deal and make this about a full blown rebuild mode.

Screw Doc Rivers. I've always thought he was overrated. He didn't have great success until he got the big 3 in Boston. He won one whole game more than VDN did the previous season. People make a big deal about him because he uses terms like Ubuntu and hides money in the visiting team's locker room at Staples. I think Thibodeau was way more responsible for the Celtics 2008 title than Doc. Their defense was one of the best I've seen.

B. Scott will be hired soon enough. Unless they are keeping things way covert, I haven't heard anything about any other coaches being interviewed recently. B. Scott's last interview last 3.5 hours. Iron out the contract details and get this done. The roster is pretty much set now. that's one thing they were waiting on.

As cool as I was towards Byron as coach when the search began, I am getting really excited at the prospect of him being the coach.

And that's with 2 of the guys that I had ahead of him (JVG and Larry Brown) still available.

I remember you being quite against B.Scott as our coach when the rumors started. Good to see you moved to the 'dark side' :thumb:

Byron strikes me as the type of coach who doesn't just see the team as another "paycheck". He actually wants the team to prosper and win, whether he's head coach, analyst, or a plain and simple fan!
