Is the 1 year deal offer pretty reliable or just a rumor?

It doesn't make sense to me. i think even an optimistic Laker fan would have to grudgingly admit that this in a season of unknown for the Lakers. There are a lot of questions.

So it is understandable that a coach - for example Scott - would turn down a 1 year deal since I don't think they would be comfortable going all in on this upcoming Laker season.

It seems like the Lakers FO had an oh shit moment when D'Antoni resigned as in "Now what?" For some reason I get the feeling that the FO has a coach in mind but the availability of that coach wouldn't be for another year yet.

Seems stupid I guess but then this 1 year offer if true doesn't remove that feeling. Sounds like the Lakers are looking to do a stop gap coach hiring until the following year when they can possibly hire the coach that they are targeting and the coach they have in mind isn't named Byron Scott since he is available now.

It's not going to be a one year deal. That's just Inimical panicking!

I haven't heard anything about what terms are being offered by the Lakers. I also can't find any links to that ever being an offer. Even if Short Buss were running things all by himself, I doubt that even he'd be so stupid as to offer a 1 year deal to any coach, much less someone like Byron Scott.

The only recent rumors about the coaching situation that I've seen is the one about the Lakers meeting with Byron for the 3rd time and that it was to discuss the roster, etc.

IF (and it's an enormous if) you do something like that, then you name one of the assistants from last years staff as an "interim coach" for the upcoming season and then go after the guy you really want. You don't insult someone like Byron with a 1 year deal. It makes him a "lameduck" coach from day 1.

I don't think so at all. I think they were thrilled that Mike made the decision to resign instead of having to fire him.

I have not heard or read anything about only offering Scott a 1 year deal. Something like that would have come up. I think Scott pretty much already has the job. They just want to get all their players signed and have their press conferences. Once that is done, they'll have the presser for Scott's introduction. Keeps people talking about the Lakers all summer.

Sweet. Now we have to wait for Scott's acceptance and then the big presser.

Scott has always been my first job. He made it clear he wanted the job and he is a long time Lakers fan that bleeds purple and gold.

ESPN reports that Scott and the Lakers are hammering out the details of the contract and they should have a presser in the next 48-72 hours. As we all know, Kobe has endorsed Scott as the HC because Scott was one of Kobe's mentor's when Kobe was a wet-behind-the-ears rook!

I loved the story Kobe told about Byron making Kobe get his donuts, etc.

Yea me too. Kobe will be doing something similar as a player on the court now that Scott is going to be the HC.
