It's really not as simple as you make it sound. Jumping offside happens because players are tired, QB has them in a stance to long, defense tries to draw them off, QB Cadence changes etc. Holding a lot of the time is refs making a call they are allowed to hold inside the chest plate, refs make judgement calls. You act as if playing the game at this level is easy b/c they have been doing it a long time it's not and there is a ton of pressure especially in close games nearing the end of the game.

All you did was validate my point it’s not on the coaches like you are saying. It’s on the player. Whether they are tired or any of the other reasons you stated. It’s on them to have to suck it up and play the game.

Didn't I ask that same question. Two passes in a row and the Titans are back on their heels and Van Pelt calls two runs in arow.

The more I watch the questionable play calling, the more I get the sick feeling that he'll be back again next year.
It's been the same week in and week out. SMH

I don't agree but will not banter back and forth on this. IMO this is one of these situations where both can be true

There is a serious problem with officiating.

A game starts and they ignore "little" things like a shirt grab by a DB because the play was a called run. The DSB gets away with those for a quarter and then gets called because the shirt is stretched three feet and he's keep the WR from getting to the ball. The coach is screaming at the sideline official and they all have a smirk. Because they call it once they usually won't call it again on the same guy. Holding is usually flagrant. The OL guy has an arm wrapped around a defender's neck or has two hands full of a shirt and won't let the defender make a turn to either tackle a runner or go after the QB. But there are officials who hardly call anything against a tam that they like. That's true depending on where certain games are played.
Crowds can influence flags being thrown. Metlife, Arrowhead and couple others are where crowds can make officials throw a flag to calm the anger.

We're all human and have likes and dislikes. Officials want to survive will make horrible calls to get out of a stadium alive. Average officiating crews don't leave their locker room for at least an hour after the game and security generally escorts them to a bus or van that takes them to a hotel or airport. They never drive a personal vehicle to a game.

Looking at this team…. What an epic failure this team has been from ownership on down. Kraft is cheap when it comes to players and the team facilities. Eliot Wolfs drafting was a complete disaster. Maye was a layup. He took what was left of the big 3 QB’s. The rest of the draft (even though we are only 9 games in) has done absolutely nothing. Not a single player other than Maye has done shit. On a team that is horrible at almost every position the rookies can’t get on the field because they suck or are injured. The coaching.. Jesus what a joke. Mayo seems to screw the pooch every single game. Van Pelt. The guy seems way over his head.

Unless we drastically overpay free agents, players will not want to come to the Patriots. We saw it this year and it’s only going to get worse.

Rant over.

Strange, Barmore and Caeden Wallace may all be back by the Week 14 Bye.

They won't be able to turn this team completely around but may be able to start the push toward a more positive future.

I don't think that they will have to "drastically" overpay, but they will have to overpay what other teams are willing to pay.

This team cannot change what the tax environment is in Massachusetts, but have to be aware of the severe tax penalties for players earning over $1M per year and adjust their financial aspects to account for it.

The staff has to seriously look at every position and eliminate the weakest or worst players everywhere and then make a serious plan for drafting for need and not fall into a "best player available" rut.

This team will have 9 draft picks (As of 11/6/24) and use each one to fix what's wrong after they try to do repairs in free agency. The draft is completely dependent on how well free agency is handled. This team cannot go into the second day of free agency still having $139,000,000 waiting to be spent. They have got to move fast and be willing to spend the minute the market opens.

I remember a teachable moment with my youngest daughter.
I explained that when she goes to the mall with $50, she wants to spend $50.
I go to the mall with $50 and want to spend $25 and have $25 left to do more shopping.

Spending big in free agency rarely improves your team.
That money can be better used to sign players in trades?

The problem is that nobody is cheap anymore. Free agency or a new contract. Everyone wants at least $50M guaranteed.

Even trades are costing the trader. Yesterday, The Jets had to pick up everything on Mike William's' contract except the remaining salary per game.

If the player that you get in free agency is better than anyone on your present team at that position, it's an improvement. It may not put the team in the playoffs, but it puts them one position closer.

The main objective for the Patriots should be to sign the best LT that they can pay.
Next, Sign an above average CB to play alongside Gonzalez.
Next, Make a real effort to sign their potential #1 WR.

BOOM!!!!

Now look at what must be the main position to go after in the draft. RT? Edge? LB?

Me? If I filled the first three, I'd be looking for a stud Edge. Trade the #1 for nothing less than a top six and future #1 as well as a second pick no less than a fourth in 2025. They don't want to give it up? Fuck 'em. Someone else will pay the price.

I agree on most of what you are saying.
I disagree on signing a #1 WR. How many #1 WR's are playing today? It certainly in't 32.

That would be the dream scenario. Getting a quality T and CB in FA highly unlikely for this management team. I agree with @Southieinnc not sure we need a true #1 WR. They rarely pan out, become divas, want big $ and few take their team to the SB.

I've been thinking this team should flip the tables. Everyone going lighter and faster. Time to go bigger, get a FB, and some graders on the line along with a blocking TE. Then late in the draft go after a kid like Chip Trayanum, RB, UK. 5-11, 230lbs and runs a sub 4.4. Hard runner. He even played a little LB.

I wasn't really clear. What I'm trying to say is they need to sign someone that can be their #1.

They don't have a clear WR who is stepping up to take the role of a leader and threat to another team.
I think the best example of what I think they need, is an Edelman type of guy who's able to be a threat to catch critical passes at critical times and be a sort of 'favorite' go-to. I know that Randy Moss's, Megatrons and Jerry Rice's are far and few. I do think that a Tee Higgins, Mike Williams, Jaylen Waddle, CeeDee Lamb, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Chris Godwin could all be that #1. It's going to be expensive, but it would be well worth that expense.
Any one of them could completely change the defenses thrown at Maye.

Who was our true #1 in 2016? 7/11 Hogan? Dola,? Jules? The one hit wonder gimp from Georgia?

So my two cents.

2016 We had Brady, we don't have that and I am not convinced Maye is even close to that. Remember Jones had a nice rookie year too. NFL teams will know Maye's tendencies next year and will have better game plans for that.

I have said this twice now, the last three years saw a lot of WRs drafted by this team we have at least got to attempt to get them up to snuff. I too am not convinced a team must have the proverbial #1 WR. A decent run game and some good route running WRs can offset that. But again I feel we need to be patient with what we have.

If by chance we can land a quality Vet LT that allows a lot of room to move around the draft, if we get a decent CB,S, DT or Edge in FA all the better. We are not going to win shit the next year or two so having draft capital to build and feed the beast is what we need to do.

Will Maye win 7 Superbowls and get in the Hall? I doubt it.
What we need are good decisions, good drafts and good luck.
A tougher team would be nice too.

Offensive lineman have played their role from middle school until now. They’ve always been the big guys. Between practice and games… I’m willing to bet thousands of plays. They jump offside’s… they hold…. They know better. If they don’t understand to wait until the snap… that’s on them for being dumb
With the reaction time of some of these elite athletes, even the big guys, sometimes it's a timing thing trying to move as the ball is snapped rather than waiting to react to the ball being snapped, at which point they may be beat by a DL.

It's still on them for being off time.
