PFT argues that it ultimately comes down to Dak or Kirk for that final spot. I think we can set that aside and put them both over Matthew Stafford personally. But Stafford does have jewelry now.

So...this guy?

If the list is “right now” they need to take Joe Burrow out of their Top 8.

Baker Mayfield’s numbers are better this year.

I disagree with the premise that either are top ten QBs. If I have to choose between the two, I'd probably go Dak, just because he has been slightly better against good teams than Cousins, though still not nearly good enough.

Simms suggested a consensus top eight (in no particular order): Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, and Matthew Stafford. So does Cousins deserve one of the final two spots?

I do think in the past 18 or so games that Cousins has notably outplayed Dak and Stafford. I do think Herbert, when healthy, is generally too talented for Cousins to pass him in a serious conversation but if we're just going on results there is an argument that Cousins might be ahead of him but I wouldn't make it. Maybe Stafford deserves credit for having a ring but whats the argument for Dak over Cousins?

Yep plays well against bad teams. Fails against good teams. He has arguably the fastest weapons in NFL history and the most dangerous weapon in football. Fraud
Seems like that was Matthew Staffords bio early in his career. That said, Miami also might have one of the better offensive minds in football, too, and Tua has an extensive injury history. Im still not ready to put Tua in 'that' conversation of good QBs.

Pad Statford got a ton of yards in garbage time of losses.

Once he stopped breaking his collar bones anyway.

Not sure he’s ever been a Top Ten QB tbh. He plays stupid. And it shows with all the picks. Great arm though.

Personally, I think that after you get past the top couple of guys, the QB play has been wildly inconsistent overall and it's a moot point. Maybe the defenses deserve some credit or maybe we are just seeing that everybody needs help around them, not just the Brock Purdy's, Geno Smith's, Derek Carr's of the world. Take away the Narrative on Kirk Cousins and strictly look at this season, he has arguably been as good or better than most of the big names on the list.

I'd say both are right now. If you put a list together, it's hard to see 10 QBs in the NFL right now better than Dak and Kirk.

To me, right now there are 4 top QBs: Mahomes, Allen, Burrow and Herbert. Lawrence is probably just below them and maybe Tua also. Anyone else is only top 10 because you need to name 10 to have a top 10 but the next group is pretty much a pick them out of a hat week by week group.

Guys I am >99% confident are top 10 QB's in no meaningful order:

Mahomes
Allen
Burrow
Jackson
Hurts
Herbert
Lawrence

>50% confident are top 10 QB's:

Prescott

Have some major doubts, I don't take them at face value:

Kirk Cousins
Kyler Murray

Look like top 10 QB's statistically, but take them at less than face value

Tagovailoa
Purdy
Goff

If you squint really hard, you can try an argument:

R. Wilson
Smith

That's a pretty good breakdown but I think you are being a tad harsh on Cousins. He does not have to be great to be in the current top 10.

Pose this same question a couple of years back and I probably would have had Allen right on the heels of Mahomes as the league's top QB. But something about his game since then has bugged me. Yes, he continues to put up big numbers, he continues to be a huge factor in the team's offensive production. Can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about his play that no longer screams clutch. Not sure I'd have him as one of the four top QBs these days.

Oh, on a side note when just doing a general review of the QB stats, I couldn't help but notice that Sam Howell, who happens to be 6th in passing yards per game, has been sacked a whopping 40 times already. This puts him on pace to get dropped 97 times. That's insane, especially when the record is David Carr being sacked 76 times in '02.

And side note #2, considering this thread is whether or not Kirk Cousins is a top 10 QB, this can obviously be debated from a career standpoint, but right now his 293.9 passing yards per game currently ranks 2nd in the league. I think he's worthy of consideration at least for this season.
