I think that New England offense has you spoiled.

Love him or hate him, Woodhead's numbers speak for themselves. In his 3 years as a Patriot he rushed for 1,199 yards and 10 TDs while averaging 4.8 YPC and had 92 receptions for 982 yards and another 4 TDs while averaging over 10 yards per catch.

Over 2,000 total yards and 14 TDs in a three year span from a back-up RB? And you still don't like him? What's not to like? He seems like the ideal back-up RB to have in the stable to me: he was free (undrafted) which is always a bonus, he can run, he can catch, he doesn't turn the ball over. Don't get me wrong, he's not a starter, star, Pro Bowler, or anything of that nature, but he's a quality dependable role player.

If you just look at the kid and don't like him, whatever, that's cool. But there's nothing not to like about his play, imo. The production in limited action shows as much...

I'm a Patriot fan. They are the only other team I get any kind of emotional attachment with (of course not even in the same galaxy as the Lions). Sorry I'm a loyal MI fan and I'm proud of Brady so sue me. With that said, IMHO I think Danny Woodhead is the prototypical example of the guy being made by the system. The Ridley/Vareern combo is an immense upgrade from a purely intangible perspective. Woodhead was a good soldier during his time but the Pats need more out of their RB's moving forward than he was able to offer.

I just think it was a $$ issue. They had Vereen who can fill the same role (probably better, if his college production is any indication) for much cheaper. Vereen hasn't produced like Woodhead in the NFL yet, but I'm betting he will now that he's filling that role.

The Pats are very good at getting good production out of veterans and then replacing them when their contract is up, rather than paying them market value.

Danny boy will get a fair amount of touches in San Diego's (i.e. Denver's 2012) offense this season, so we'll get a better look at what he's got outside of New England's prolific offense...

That's what I'm saying. He was solid in his role but I fully expect him to do nothing in San Diego. Maybe I'll stand corrected, but they didn't take full advantage of sproles, and in my mind the comparison between the two is similar to stafford to tebow. He can be a role player in the right system but in most he'll bomb out hard.

I feel similar to Welker in Denver. Manning is not Brady, and Welker will not be grabbing 100 balls a year in Denver. No way.

He won't rack up the stats. But he will do more for their offense than he has in NE in my opinion. They have the people to spread the field and get him open underneath, and the threat of him underneath will help people open up down the field. That didn't happen here because you could just crowd underneath and leave the rest one on one, with no one to take advantage of it.

Manning isn't Brady? I guess not on an obvious level, but it's hard to argue that one is better than the other.

They're the two best QBs of their era (with Aaron Rodgers kicking off the next era, imo), and while Brady has more rings both guys are simply great QBs. Welker compliments Manning perfectly in my opinion. Manning is a timing QB who counts on WRs to be in the right place at the right time, and once he gets used to Welker they should be a great combo...

Apparently the Lions are Courtland Finnegan's second pick after the Rams.

I don't agree with TP often, but Welker will be just fine playing toss and catch with Manning.

I could make the argument; it's one I've made before, but it seems silly to bother. They are clearly one and two of their era, and if you put either below third best in the league any given year during their prime (but Brady in '08) you're nuts.

Absolutely, but he won't put up the numbers because they don't need him to.

I think the catches will be way down, but the YPC will be up, as he'll be less of a focus of opposing defenses.

Possibly. But even if they aren't I don't think it means it was a bad move.

Tebow a Patriot.

I actually like this move by Kraft and company. Timmy will be fine in New England, just too many retards running teams nowadays to figure out the complexities of talent and play makers......Hell, I wish Denard Robrinson was in New England too.......They know what too do.

We could have God and Superman on our team and still find ourselves in 3rd and 15 or 4th and 5.......

Good teams figure it out......We can't do it......Tebow will be ok in Foxboro.

I hate the move. It's not a huge risk, but there is some risk of locker room issues/ other distractions (people in both his former teams seemed to resent the popularity of a bad QB), and I see minimal upside. We have two better QBs, 4 (maybe even 5) better TE's who can all play a fullback role, and I don't see anything else unless we just make him a punt protector like NY.

I respectively and vehemently disagree. IMO it is not hard at all (and after this post it should not be hard for anyone else either).

Peyton Manning's career playoff total is 9-11. Only Peyton Manning and Brett Favre have 11 playoff losses in NFL history. By the time Manning retires, he will probably own the record all by himself. It is true that he has 1 SB win over Rex Grossman. But Manning also has the most one-and-done playoff losses (8) than any QB in NFL history.

By comparison, Tom Brady is the all-time leader in playoff wins for a quarterback (17 wins), breaking his tie with Joe Montana in 2012.

He also has 3 Superbowls.

Peyton Manning is a great regular season, and an average playoff QB. Big Ben has more playoff wins than Peyton (10). Flacco has just as many (9), and will finish with A LOT more than Peyton by the time both are retired.

Summary: Peyton Manning isn't even on the same planet as Tom Brady.

The argument used to be Peyton had the stats, but on average, Peyton throws one more pass for 12 more yards a game, .06 more TD and .3 more picks. Hardly a significant difference.

I'm loving it. I've got Manning and Welker in my keeper league. No worries here.

And by the time Manning is laying his egg in the playoffs, I'll already have my championship.

I'll take Manning. Tom Brady goes down for the year, the Pats still win 10 games. Manning goes down, Indy gets the first pick in the draft. (Hopefully Staff can work on catching Peyton in playoff losses this year, has a little ground to gain)
