Fortunately the Lions still have SF this season. Hopefully they are phoning in the rest of the season.

Chicago worries me a little more, because of how they lost to the Lions last time they played them. They may have a chip on their shoulder at home today.
Today's game was never in doubt. Lions are the better team and it showed.

What does Dan Campbell bring to the table? I have always thought the best situation for a football team during the season is to have the OC calling offensive plays, the DC calling defensive plays, and the HC managing the game and communicating with the coordinators and players. However, as that team succeeds and the coordinators get plucked by other teams in the off-season, the success could start to dwindle as lower quality, less experienced coordinators step into the roles. BJ looks like a gifted play caller as does Aaron Glenn. Do you think it would make sense long term for the lions to axe Campbell in favor of BJ and bring in a different OC? They might even give Campbell a job in the front office or something. This would give them another year of continuity behind a successful OC and they would have a realistic chance of retaining Aaron Glenn too.

On the surface, it doesn’t seem right to get rid of Campbell, but it might be the right move they regret not making in the future because of the success the team has had this past year. However, he might bring something different to the table that I am not seeing.
What?

He took a crap team and turned them into SB contenders? Not sure what you're missing here.

And was OC/play caller for part of his first season as HC in Detroit.

Ben Johnson has never hired any assistants, never cut anyone, never played, never held a press conference…

I don’t think Detroit or any other team would rather have him as HC than Campbell.

If Dan were 70+ years old this might make sense. If the Lions really are that worried about losing assistants, just give them massive raises to stay. There is no cap on coaching salaries.

They need 2 solid drafts to get back to competing for the division. Then again the Bears FO makes bizarre decisions.
They have to beef up the trenches or they’re gonna be stuck in the North basement for awhile.

And I say that as a believer in Williams.

Coordinators are only leaving for HC gig. Other than that, no reason to leave.

I'm not totally sold on Williams and thought he was the 3rd best QB in the draft but I won't bury the guy is first year. I'll have a better idea after he's completed his 3rd year.

He was second coming into this year for me. I loved Daniel’s at ASU, never mind LSU.

Williams seems to have the complete package. Just needs time to mature. As a QB and a dude.

He really missed out by the Bears failing to hire Harbaugh when they had the chance.

I had Daniels 1, Penix 2 and Williams 3.

Maybe it was media pressure but he crumbled at USC.

I’m not sure how the Lions can bounce back from all these injuries in time for a strong playoff run. There have just been too many season-ending losses to key starters, and it’s hard to see a clear path forward.

On top of that, I think Johnson has been a huge part of the Lions’ success, and I doubt he’ll be back in 2025—he’s almost certainly going to land a head coaching job somewhere else. So even a healthy 2025 roster, may not be as good as this team was at one point this season.

I’m still hoping for the best and will watch every game with that hope, but realistically, I don’t see how they can recover enough for a deep playoff push. At this point, I’m doubtful they’ll end up with the #1 seed. Minnesota is on fire right now, and I don’t think Philly is losing another game. It would be a tough pill to swallow to win 13-14 games and still have to play a road game in the first round of the playoffs. Hopefully the Packers can do us a favor and beat the Vikings to give us some cushion.

That’s always a worry, even when you feel like this could be the year, injuries can always screw things up .. That’s why you’re never guaranteed a championship..

Lions are too good not to be the number one seed in the NFC.
