No way. He lead the league in assists 5x. Was an 8x A.S., a 7x all NBA selection, 2x MVP & only John Stockton & Jason Kidd dished out more assists.

He was also maybe the best shooting PG ever.

You can see exactly what Bill Russell would look like in a more recent era, he was Dennis Rodman.

He was nothing like Rodman. DR was 100% hustle, length and stamina, Russell was extremely intelligent and he had a complete game.

He was picked 15th and he was dominant for 6 or 7 years, he was not overrated.

A lot of this thread gets confused with Failed to live up to potential and over rated. Being drafted 15th with his career means he did not fail to live up to his potential. Those two MVP's that he did not deserve means that he is overrated. Overrated does not mean he was not good, it just means people have a higher opinion of his career than he deserves.

Nothing like him? Both owned rebounding in their career, both are elite at defense due to their agility, both scored all of their points in the paint.

Russell was a better passer and blocked more shots, outside of that they are very similar.

Rodman was very intelligent on the court, playing hard does not mean you are not also playing smart.

You know who AI sounds like....RW

For sure. They're almost like replica's of each other, but a bit different. I enjoy watching Westbrook play, I just think he's a horribly inefficient player. Just like AI.

Only if you wanna ignore the fact that Magic was a better shooter (52.0%). Same w/ Stockton (51.5%). Nash was a 49% shooter.

'Overrated' is always a really touchy subject, because to be truly overrated, a lot of people have to think think highly of you.

People hear "he's overrated" and they think that means "he sucks". Just cause I think someone is overrated doesn't mean I think they suck. I might even think they are a great player... just not as great as the general perception.

*cough* Bill Russel *cough*

Why are people talking about Russell's offensive skills as if that was the reason he won 11 championships in 13 years?

To be fair he was probably the first player in the NBA to use his quickness, athleticism and brains to be a championship level defender and rebounder to trigger the Celtic fast break but then that doesn't show up on the stats sheets either.

If you factor in Nash's great 3pt shooting he was better than either Stockton or Magic.
His FG efficiency was .556, Stockton's was .546 and Magic's was .533.
If you just take his great years he was even more superior because he was a late bloomer.

That doesn't do Russell justice. It's amazing how often his blocked shot went to a Celtic player for an easy 2.

He is the only player who turned blocks into passes on a consistent basis, and good passes at that. He had uncanny touch with his finger tips.

RW has the highest player efficiency rating in the league this season. His career PER is 23.83 and going up all the time, AI's was 20.92.
