I'm starting to think you're an alt for Bill Simmons. I feel like you've quoted him word for word on this thread.

For starters, he'd have to put on some weight or else he'd be call Bill Russoft or something like that. He'd have to get his FT% up or else he'd be a hack a Bill target on days he gets cold. Might need to work on his shooting a small bit, too.

I think he'd be fine. He wouldn't be the first player I'd build a team with or anything but he could definitely be a dominant player.

I doubt he'd have to put on weight given his length and quickness. He was over 70% at the line, not that bad.
Phil Jackson said he'd take Russell over Jordan, interesting considering he saw Russell play and has some history with MJ. Also if I've ever read Bill Simmons I don't remember it.

No I was apologized for Pippen's game 5 in 1991 or at least bringing it up.

:heh:

During that finals, I had to work several of the days that they had games (4 of them I think). I got off before the games started, but not with enough time to get home for the games.

I found a nearby sports bar that I could get to before the games started.

Turns out, it was a Chicago themed sports bar that catered to Bulls, Bears and Cubs fans. I think I was the only Lakers fan in the entire bar all 4 times. lol

Had a great time. The Bulls fans were pretty cool and appreciated that I kept showing up and pulling for my team.

A.) He was 6'9" and would be a power forward in any subsequent era, not a center.

and

B.) You are clearly incapable of understanding the difference in the level of talent between his era and subsequent eras.

I understand just fine, Russell went against teams most every game that had 5 starters who were top 40 in the league. He went against Wilt, Baylor, West, Robertson and many other stars, and he didn't have 32 teams, 20 of which are not real competition for contenders.

His finals trip was based on two factors if I remember correctly:

1) KG getting hurt
2) Magic getting ridiculous 3pt shooting from guys who faded after that run

Howard is pretty universally mocked after he left the Lakers. I think he is properly rated.

If we are putting Howard in this conversation then we need to start looking at other people like Melo.
Yeah, Rashard Lewis stole millions.

Dude was a Monster for the Sonics.

But, fell off a cliff after that Finals run in Orlando.

Still, he got a $100 mil deal and won a chip.

Not bad for a straight from High School 2nd round pick.

Clearly, you don't.

The stats Im looking at say 56%

You're correct, my bad.
His scoring was maybe his 4th most valuable attribute though, so FT shooting wouldn't be quite the liability it would be for say MJ, but it's always a factor.

Clearly I do.

If you did, you wouldn't keep posting the same things which do not account for the difference in the overall level of talent.

Every player you listed, with the exception of Wilt is either no longer in anyone's top 10 or on very few top 10 all time lists.

So again, you clearly are incapable of grasping the difference.

But then, you also think he was 6'11" and a 70% free throw shooter.

You're nuts, Baylor, Robertson, West and quite a few other players from the era would be stars today.

MJ shooting 84% from the line is a liability? Not to mention he hit alot of clutch free throws.

You can see exactly what Bill Russell would look like in a more recent era, he was Dennis Rodman.

Russell was a career .561 FT shooter. But if you change the #'s from .561 to .651 he's was pretty damn close to shooting 70%. Is that allowed?

Overrated - Steve Nash
Failed to live up to potential - Darko, not just because he went between a bunch of future Hall of Famers, but he truly under achieved. A lot of people thought he was a future star, but he just did not care about basketball

You misread my post. My point is IF MJ had a low FT% it would have been a bigger liability because it was a bigger value to his game than to Russell's game.

No way. He lead the league in assists 5x. Was an 8x A.S., a 7x all NBA selection, 2x MVP & only John Stockton & Jason Kidd dished out more assists.

He was picked 15th and he was dominant for 6 or 7 years, he was not overrated.
