I think a question like this is one that has to be considered when thinking about how teams might strategize their draft plans. Typically, rounds 1-3 are where the starters are anticipated and everything after that is depth and a crapshoot. Under these terms, what would be the best way for the Lions to get 3 starters?

How about CB, DE, and C (in that order)? Or CB, OLB and C?

Thoughts?

If they are looking for 3 starters -- I would say CB, OLB, WR.

Only reason being -- Raiola played extremely well last year, so if they draft a center, it'd take a lot to unseat him from his starting job.

CB 1st, as Detroit needs an elite talent at the position and there are two guys who could step in and start immediately for sure.

OLB 2nd, as it wouldn't be terribly difficult to replace Palmer and the OLB position isn't extremely deep in this draft, so taking one in the 2nd round would probably give Detroit the best chance at finding an immediate starter.

WR 3rd -- with Tate being able to play inside and out. Detroit should be able to find a guy to play on the inside without much problem that'd be an upgrade over any of the options on the team.

I'd say it'd have to be a combo of these 4 positions (S, OLB, CB, WR), with the 1st round being CB or Safety.

That sounds good. You can probably throw a OT in there too for the 1st round.

Gotta agree with Trustme. Doubt the new C moves Riola from starter this year. Not from this draft unless he picked second round which I do not want. I do easily see a WR from 3rd or 4th round starting 3rd wheel to CJ and Tate.

My ideal draft is trade back and get S/CB #1 LB #2 and WR #3

The thing is, a TE and a WR can be picked early and have the same affect. Center wouldn't move Dom but its probably a good move to nail down a starter for next year.

Since OLB is the popular second round choice here, what if the Lions took Barr in the first? Getting two more starters seems as if it would get a little harder in that situation.

Not really, Grabbing a talent like Deone Bucannon, Lamarcus Joyner, Jimmie Ward or Terrance Brooks would immediately be our best choice opposite of Quin.

PS- Picking Ebron at this point would be the worst possible scenario. Giving Pettigrew 8 million guaranteed means you are ready to be mediocre at the position. Drafting another TE at #10 would just show that Mayhew is indecisive and has no idea what the hell he is doing.

While I feel you could. Reiff and Waddle are good for me. Defense needs first two picks in my book. Has anybody read or know if the Defense is going to play nickel D more or go with 3 LB's? Could make me change my pick up a little.

Now the DE thing I have no problem with and moving Taylor to swing man.

Draft a k as one of the 3. Guaranteed starter. Also we should not be expecting 3 starters out of this draft. 3 contributors maybe bit not 3 starters

Gotta disagree. Not the kicker thing. ABSURD!!! Now starters, IMO you should get 2 starters first 2 picks every year. Some sit one year tops and then should be starters year two. This draft is deep and I feel many teams will get 3 starters. I can easily see picks starting at S, CB, WR and LB and a C for next year.

I expect 2 starters and maybe a 3rd or front office failed terribly.

The kicker was a joke.

As for the starters I don't know. If we go CB there is going to a learning curve and a CB likely won't start this year. He may contribute and see the field but don't think a regular starter. The same goes for c. Maybe a c would would start this year but more likely next year after Dom is done. If we go dix Rd 1 I think he could start, or possibly lb but not much else.

I am talking immediate starters this year. Eventual starters yes we will hopefully land 3, but immediately is unlikely.

Why not? I expect three starters. Last year they had waddle, ansah, martin, and slay (not sure how many games he started.) if they have a draft even remotely as good as last years I expect at least three.
