Game Thread: Week 5: Denver Broncos at New England Patriots

After the Broncos found their first win they are looking at another long trip to the East coast again. It helps that the game has been moved to the late afternoon start so we avoid the 1 PM EDT kickoff. It will be interesting how the the Patriots week progresses and when/if they play the Chiefs this week, or it will be the second game this week postponed until a later date. It would be better for the Broncos if the Patriots and Chiefs play on Tuesday as it would be a short week for the Patriots, and their preparation may be through Zoom meetings instead of practicing.

It will be interesting to see how many players are able to return for the Broncos, and if Cam Newton will be available for the Patriots. The Patriots are far less intimidating with Hoyer then with Newton. As DC said in another thread the Patriots will be ready and are not easy to beat at anytime in the Belichick era.

Big game coming from the Outlaw Josie Jewell -- the leash is off.

If Lock is back - and the Broncos get the extra long week to prepare - I think we will see some energy and points scored. Lindsay will be back too - so it will be back to the original plan on offense. Please continue to let Gordon earn his $8 - especially at the goal line. His touchdown against the Jets was a veteran move and showed desire.

I think this Defense may be more fun to watch - with the blitz packages - with either AJ or the outlaw turned lose to cause mayham.

Josey Jewell received a grade higher than any other ILB this year from this past game. A lot of people gave up on him after playing hurt all year last season. This guy will be in the NFL a very long time, not calling him a star, but he fills a roll in the NFL. (Dependable, experience can play special teams, supports the run well) I don't know if people were expecting Ray Lewis or what, but he is the perfect player to have around a squad. He isn't going to make a ton of plays behind the line of scrimmage like an elite ILB, but he is making more, and he is a quality player to have around.

After watching the Chiefs and Patriots tonight, the Patriots have a good D, but if Cam is unable to play they are not near as dynamic.Tough for a defense to hold up consistently with little to no help from the offense. Just ask the Broncos Defense about how that works.

This. I would have felt a lot more confident going into this game if Cam wasn't in Covid protecal. Should be an interesting game regardless. But if Hoyer starts.... Broncos win

Some tough breaks for both teams so far. Broncos have got to be amped for this. They get a win and at 2-3 it's a completely different season than it was after the loss to the Bucs.

Haha, that's something I thought of too. Not so much they play bad before playing us, but they had a bad week against the Chiefs and very few teams are able to get back on focus as effectively as the Pats. The big question is how much of that was Brady, and how much was BB. There's a leadership vacuum on that roster right now. Even a fully healthy Cam Newton would be challenged to replace a Tom Brady. I'm not counting our boys out just yet. Both teams have every reason to show up and play lights out.

Just don't count on the Patriots throwing 3 INTs or dropping 3 INTs against the Broncos.

It'll be interesting this week.

Cam is asymptomatic. He'll be tested tomorrow (Wed) and if he's negative, will be tested again Saturday. If he tests negative again, he can play on Sunday. If he tests neg. on Wed. he can also practice with the team.

I actually thought the Patriots played good this week for having Brian Hoyer and the adjusting they had to do. If the D hold them like they did on Monday vs the Chiefs with Cam in the lineup they win. (Remember, Stidham also threw a pick 6) The Patriots are for real!

I wouldn't play Lock after a long lay off and a short week. Gilmore being out is a large blow to the Pats (whose next?).

I’d say more like 15/85. It would be surprising to play him not practicing yesterday or today.
