Far-fetched, I know. The Colts have a lot of issues and a golden opportunity to make something happen. So here is my question...instead of looking to acquire a QB through free agency what would it take to get that #1 pick.

I remember when Tebow was on the board the broncos traded (i think) 3 1st's for him. A lot of the people on ESPN or NFL Network said that not a single QB in the draft or league is worth 3 1st Round picks.

Would this be enough, or too much or is this just a bad idea to try and trade for the #1 pick, and drafting Luck.

49ers get: #1 overall pick

Colts get: 49ers 1st, 3rd, 4th, Future 1st, Future 3rd (2013) Colin Kaepernick, Larry Grant

What else would need to be added to make this happen, or should the 49ers not worry about it and just sign free agent WR's and stick to Smith?

I think they would want more than that. Throw in the 2nd rounders from the next two drafts and maybe they go for it.

That's not even close to enough to get the #1 overall pick.

I'm pretty sure the Colts have said that they won't be trading the #1 Pick. I believe that their owner Irsay flat out told Mortenson that he wouldn't trade the pick.

But Mike Brown said he wouldn't trade Palmer, so I can still hold out my unrealistic hopes. :)

It would take a few of our pro bowlers to start... but no...

I said it before, keep an eye on Blackmon... hopefully, JUST hopefully he'll slide and we go ATL on someone to grab him.

our draft slot is simply far too low, too low this year and years afterward.

If Alex Smith is not the long term answer (without making this a thread about that) then the team is going to have to do something drastic to get that guy. Like trading a lot to get there. We will probably be picking in the lower half of the draft for a while (hopefully) so then it turns into making wise picks and hopefully finding a gem. Sure there are really good QBs that can be had late in the first and in the 2nd, but I'm just talking about guys like Luck/Stafford/etc are gone early first.

Well, good thing he is the long term answer, then. Phew! (No, I'm kidding, I, like, Tallglass, don't want this to be a Smith thread. Reggie has been talked to death on this board.)

That would be a big stanank IMO. I like Blackmon, but he's not a Julio down by the schoolyard caliber WR for whom the Niners should spend big in terms of picks. Matt Kalil is that valueable (as is Andrew Luck), but Blackmon? No.

yep, we're in a tough spot at QB. whether trading high up in the draft, or signing a top free agent, tough spot.

it could be worse, Alex Smith isn't franchise but he proved he can do well enough meanwhile. at this point, still say he's the lesser of the evils.
