I am tired of all this B.S. talk about the budget. The Giants are swimming in cash and they just opened another Giants dugout store in San Mateo but still no left fielder. They don't want to spend on a free agent so it's time to wheel and deal in a trade.

Josh Willingham would fit perfect in SF and he can be traded for if Sabean works a deal. He made 7 mill last in a off year but in 2012 he won the silver slugger. His power numbers are there and we need power especially from the right side of the plate.

In 2011 he had 29 HR's and 98 RBI's and in 2012 he had 35 HR's and 110 RBI's. He is 34 yrs old and I believe set for a big year. This is the guy the Giants should go after and I don't want to hear about the money or the willing to make a trade.

All that new TV money and all these Dugout stores. WE WANT A LEFT FIELDER ! I am not buying any tickets or gear until they get one.

Get you're ass in gear Sabean and get it done.

Money comes and goes but Championships live on forever .

Budget my ass ! Let's go !

Go Giants !!

Doesn't have to be Willingham but I'm with you, if they can't step up with the big boys (Dodgers) and get a legit LF then they aren't going to get it done next year, plain and simple. We have a window, I hope they fully take advantage.

IMO, not so fast on Willingham. He has a cumulative -7.7 dWAR, including -2.2 in 2012, and a -1.4 in 2013. At age 35 when ST starts, those numbers are certainly not going to get any better. That's not Giants baseball.

Josh Willingham Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

B.S. 29 HR's and 95 RBI's in 2011 and 35 HR's and 110 RBI's in 2012. Take you're WAR for a hike.

I will take those stats any day.

What is Giants ball? Slap Hitters R Us.

He would be a good add.

Classic head-in-the-sand SABR denialism. Williamham was barely above replacement level last year (0.3 WAR). He's 35, declining, and unlikely to justify his $7MM salary next year. He's a defensive liability; the Twinkies may get value out of him by DHing him a lot, but he'd be a disaster in the NL.

Pass...

So he will be 35 . I think he still has something for at least 2 more years until the Giants can get someone better. I don't think the Twins will ask for the moon for him. I sure would take him over the platoon we have right now.

Remember he won a silver slugger award in 2012.

If he can hit 20-25 jacks and add 80 RBI's he is good enough to play left. I say he still has it. As for defense you lose a little but he will make up for it will his bat. He will make the hitters around him in the line up better also.

This. JW will make someone a fine DH. I wanted him bad 3 years ago. But now, with our park and our pitchers, the bias should be towards speed and defense. JW would soon have negative net worth for us. IMHO.

You "think" he has something? Based on WHAT? I gave you the numbers and projections. Silver slugger award? Really? He hit 14 HR/48 RBI in a better hitters park last year, he's aging, and would be moving to a tough park to hit HRs in. Why would he suddenly jump up to 20-25 bombs and 80 RBI?

again, pass....

You actually lose a LOT. Blanco and JCP put up a combined 1.7 dWAR (according to BBRs calculation) while Willingham put up a -1.4. That is a 3 WAR swing. Not something to disregard.

JCP and Blanco put up a combine 1.5 oWAR (JCP had 0 oWAR) against Willinghams 1.0 oWAR.

Replacing Blanco/JCP with Willingham is a net -3.4 WAR.

No thanks.

He had only 389 AB's last year. One off year and everyone says he is done.

Again he won the Silver slugger in 2012.

The Silver slugger award is a popularity contest, similar to the Gold Glove award. He had only 389 ABs last year BECAUSE HE'S GETTING OLD AND INJURY PRONE. Another reason to pass.

You should stick to poems and fanboy posts, you've demonstrated that analysis is not your strong suit.

Yeah right 35 jacks and 110 RBI's would make you pretty popular. He earned it.

I am done with this thread. Moving on.

As a contrast to the Gold Glove or Silver Slugger awards, someone should sponsor a set of awards for worst fielder at their position - perhaps the Bronze Bumbler awards. I nominate Jimmy Kimmel to host. Willingham would certainly be in the running.

BoB - love your heart, but JW's time is past, and there is more to a player's worth than what you find in the Sunday paper's batting stats. If he were a few years younger he might be worth a gamble. Now, he's not. IMHO.

Plus, he's a good guy to maybe put some fannies in the seats of an empty ball park. But we don't have any empty seats.

Open to other thoughts of trades the Giants can pull off.

The Giants will not go out of their way to spend a lot or give up a lot. Not much out there besides Choo but everyone knows that will not happen.

Come on you WAR fanatics let's see you work a trade out.

Good luck.

It might be a popularity contest, but Willingham had a .366 OBP and .524 SLG% that year. 143 OPS+, good for 6th in the AL.

He had a really good year. Thing is, Willingham hasn't really had any years as good as that. He was pretty consistent from 06-11 though, batting .262/.361/.478 with a 121 OPS+. His lowest OPS+ in that span was 115 and his highest was 129. Good player.

I don't think anyone is arguing that he WASN'T a good ballplayer. The point I'm making is that he ISN'T a good ballplayer and is old, injury prone, and in decline.

And he sucks at the fielding of baseballs. He wouldn't hit nearly enough in AT&T to justify his Drunken Canseco Brother in the Outfield routine.

And what did he do to follow up that "earned" SS award?

I wrote he had a off year. Does that mean he is done?

I get it that you don't like him. Come up with something better. I am open to any trade you come up with. You also don't need to knock me or my poems for being a Giants fan.

Later.

I understand that baseball is a business, but how can we possibly be thinking of trading Brandon Crawford. Ever.
