And again, it's not like they won't have anyone at 2B. All that's 'lost' is the delta between Madrigal and who they have now, and that is nothing this year (negative actually with Madrigal out) and next year it's not that much either.

Madrigal isn't some future HOFer either.

I never looked at him as a sure-thing HOFer, but as long as he can stay healthy, Madrigal should go on to have a very productive career.

I have to say that it stings a little less knowing that Madrigal would have no role in any postseason adventures and who knows how he'll respond starting next year. I also agree that we do have a legit shot at going all the way now. Offense needs to step it up, but from a pitching standpoint.....wow.

I love Madrigal, but like this trade. If it helps you win a WS - any trade is by definition worth it. Madrigal gets injured every year - take that into consideration. You can't play 2nd base from the Trainer's tub.

We might have seen it coming - as Cesar Hernandez is the opposite profile of Madrigal in the batting order. So when it comes to getting a WS contender together the Sox went away from the Madrigal model anyway.

The Sox now can take most games from the 7th inning to conclusion with few worries.

Okay, so a few hours removed, I'm less upset by the trade. Still incredibly disappointed Madrigal is gone. Just really sucks. Seeing him on the Cubs is like a kick to the taint.
