Me. Griffey is a bad pick. The Mariners are my team, but I still recognize a homer pick when I see one. That's a homer pick, just like the Mays picks are.
On the original poll, 8 people voted for Mays. Only MSG and myself are Giants fans.

You may not think Mays is top 2 (or whatever), but obviously other baseball fans disagree with you.

Agreeed. Mays is not even top five. He may not be top 10. Ruth, Hornsby, Musial, Pujols, Gehrig, Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Bonds. There's eight just off the top of my head.
Pujols ahead of Mays? Don't know about that

Agreed. I reconsidered even before you posted. Pujols had an offensive edge but it was not enough to overcome Mays superior baserunning and defensive skills. I substitute Pujols with ARod. Trout is close but injuries have ruined his longevity

im ok with Hornsby or Williams being top 3... not saying i think they are... but i would be ok with them 2... not the others mentioned
You can make a case for a couple of those over Mays (Ruth, Williams, Bonds) but the rest are laughable. Mayyyybe Hornsby, the game was so different then though.

Trout isn't anywhere close and Mays > ARod

By definition, EVERY opinion is subjective.
Sure but some are so outlandish that they can objectively be labeled 'wrong'

For example, a person could hold the opinion that Teoscar Hernandez is the best player in baseball today. That is both that person's subjective opinion but also objectively wrong. That person might think Hernandez is their favorite player, but that doesn't make him the best player in baseball.

In the first sven years of his career, Tout was on a trajectory that would have given him a career better than Mays. As I said previously and you conveniently chose to ignore, because t would have diluted your arguement, injuries ruined him.

Well that’s just you trying to be argumentative when you know what the point being made is.

If you want to live in a world where people hide behind their opinions and say they can’t be wrong because it is their opinion. Then so be it. But there are opinions that are so outlandish that there is proof against it.

Oh so now 'potential' and 'trajectory' counts? Do we get to remove the crappy years Mays had with the Mets to bring his OPS+ up?

Said something similar above

To be fair, we are all argumentative here, that's literally what this place is.

ARod gets a bad rep due to getting caught MULTIPLE times for PEDs. That is why he doesn’t get my vote for the Hall, btw. But dude was an absolute beast and he played a premium position. He won’t get any love in this discussion, and I don’t necessarily disagree with that, but ethics aside, he is an inner-circle great.

I don't disagree, probably top 10 overall, but I rank Mays higher even disregarding the PEDs.

I do admit the PEDs are why I don't rank Bonds over Mays though.

Sure. But defense has been statistically flawed forever. Makes it an impossible to factor in.

Sure. Players like Ted Williams, manny Ramirez, Miguel Cabrera etc should get dinged for their terrible defense. But how significantly different are they from a player who was elite at defense.

I do think WAR over exaggerates defense.
