Where do you slot Eddie Matthews?
2nd best third baseman of all time... probably somewhere near 30th all time

I do think think he has gotten a bit of the Brett Favre treatment with his legacy currently. Its really easy to remember why you dont like him but then you look at what he has done in his career and his prime and its impressive stuff.Pujols is a weird one. His first 10 seasons were incredible, first couple in LA were merely good and then he was replacement level (if not worse) for 7 years before going out on a high note in 2022. Those final 12 years really put a dent in his career averages, kind of easy to forget how dominant he was with the Cards
My first thought to replace Alomar and Ripken would be Raines and MattinglyAside from Ripken and Alomar (great players, but they were only great hitters for their positions and a lot of their value also came from defense/baserunning), it's a pretty fair top 10. Alomar was a better hitter between the two, but I would have gone with the likes of Edgar/McGriff/Henderson/Brett/Jack Clark/Sheffield.
Henderson or no one. Come on. Dude's considered a top 20 player ALL TIME of course he's on this list from his prime. My first thought to replace Alomar and Ripken would be Raines and Mattingly
Yeah I thought of him a few minutes later. But those other guys were the first ones that came to mind. But of course Henderson. He is actually the only one whose career spans that whole time period too.Henderson or no one. Come on. Dude's considered a top 20 player ALL TIME of course he's on this list from his prime.
When it’s a list for strictly hitting, Edgar has to be on it.Aside from Ripken and Alomar (great players, but they were only great hitters for their positions and a lot of their value also came from defense/baserunning), it's a pretty fair top 10. Yep, it just happened...20,356I remember when the 20,000th player debuted. Or at least, vaguely that it happened - the "when" part not so much, apparently.
Ah ok. I was looking at a baseball reference player page of a rookie and thought I was off by a couple thousand plus. Must be because they include N3gro League players.Yep, it just happened...20,356
I mean, dude had an epic MVP season right in the middle in 1990, just look at these numbers. He can be argued to be the best player of that era, top 5 for sure.Yeah I thought of him a few minutes later. But those other guys were the first ones that came to mind. But of course Henderson. But they usually play for multiple years, and a lot fewer teams in the early years20,000 is shockingly low.
1,000 different guys have played this year alone.
Sure, way less teams. And rosters were shorter. But they usually play for multiple years, and a lot fewer teams in the early years
