If you're going 20 deep you have to have slots for Pedro Martinez and Rickey Henderson. I put Pedro over Grover and Rickey over Ott

Only thing that kept me from placing Pedro higher was the relatively low innings. I'd agree with Rickey over Ott, I'd probably slide Ott to 21

Also just realized I didn't have Mantle... I'd bump Seaver for him

thats the problem with the advanced stats for pitchers WAR or JAWS or WAR7 is majorly influenced by IP... and back then they pitched so many more innings per season..

while ERA+ is going to give the advantage to players with less innings...

When you compare by postion at baseball-reference there is a fun statistic they have called SHARES... there is WAR shares and MVP/CY shares... where it calculates all the seasons you were BEST, top 5, top 10... i feel like this is more useful than using the WAR stats...

comparing deadball era pitchers to modern pitchers is a nightmare. Just a completely different game with how many innings pitchers threw, strikeouts and home runs.

agreed... but as all stats are incomplete... i like Shares more than WAR, or even war 7... as it can be compared to other generations easier... sure, you would have to do other things as well to make an accurate judgement... But i think SHARES is probably the BEST START

Even with the name Glasscock was one of the best SS of his time. Dickshot not so much. Dickshot to Glasscock is like saying you forgot Johnny Passwater when someone brings up Dick Trickle in racing
How dare you! Dickshot is favorite old-time player and it isn't close. I take offense to this

Look on the bright side. At least your favorite players's stats are not the same as Bernie Williams.

I don't count anything Bonds did. Hank Aaron is still the home run king. Roger Maris single season record was finally broken this past year.

Fuck cheaters.

Grover over Mathewson?

I think Christy has the better prime years, but I don't think they're that far apart (only a 0.5 gap in WAR7) and I think Alexander's longevity makes up for it. it's close

30 deep and no Roberto Clemente?

he's a tough one, I'd put him somewhere in the 31-35... maybe 26-30

Pujols is a weird one. His first 10 seasons were incredible, first couple in LA were merely good and then he was replacement level (if not worse) for 7 years before going out on a high note in 2022. Those final 12 years really put a dent in his career averages, kind of easy to forget how dominant he was with the Cards

Hard to argue against anyone on that list being 21-30 but i'd have Bench over Morgan

I was initially surprised to see Maddux quite that high, but I honestly cannot think of an overwhelming reason to argue against it.

For him to be as dominant as he was in his era with the average hitter juiced to the gills is beyond impressive.

He also did not have the advantage of a higher mound that a lot of the dominant pitchers that preceded him had.
