If getting Melo is what it takes for Houston to sign Lebron, then it's an obvious no brainer move. Houston would be the clear favorites for several years. Melo still has plenty in the tank. Dwight can make up for defensive inefficiencies.

Remember when the biggest criticism against NBA players was their valuing of money over winning?

Now that there's been a trend where some of the best players are actually valuing winning over money...

"That's cheating! He's chasing championships!"

Not completely correct. Players still want to make as much as they can over their first several years and then start taking less later in their careers to chase rings. The only difference is that we're seeing them do so sooner than usual. Previously, it was mainly guys with only a couple years left (Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Shaq, etc.). Now we're seeing guys with 4-5 years left starting to do it.

As I said on the heat board, the man loves attention. He could've done what carmelo did and waited until a day or 2 before the deadline to opt out because he knew he would but no he does it a week in advance and before the draft. This should've been done on the 28th or 29th.

With NBA salaries shrinking and endorsement money increasing it makes total sense.

Winning equates to dollars from owners right on down the line.

I heard if James left, the Heats value would instantly drop 100M.

Arison knows that. It's going to be a big factor into why he's not going to worry about luxury tax IMO.

I'm totally convinced that the Heat Big 3 are just toying with everyone again.

James opts out early to cause a league wide cap clearing frenzy.
Wade/Bosh stay silent to further make people buy into it.

Does anyone at this point not feel that they haven't really made an opt in/ out decision yet?

I think the only decision left to make at this point is can they build the team the way they need to without asking Wade to opt out.
It might be better to just get him totally off the books in 2 years.

So?

Shouldn't we always value players wanting to win over taking more money?

Isn't that the point of the game?

To win.

That was exactly my point. The only difference is that players are starting to be willing to take less earlier in their careers than they used to. Never said it was a bad thing. They're doing what they've always done, just sooner because they are making their money earlier.

Plus, these days, what some of them make off of endorsements makes their NBA salary look like pocket change.

so either Miami keeps LeBron and lose Wade/Bosh or they keep Wade/Bosh and lose LeBron...

Nice FU from LeBron to his two buddies.
