I would say without a doubt that Duncan is now for sure a top 10 player all time. I doubt he will be on many people's top 5 list, but I would say he is an equal of Kobe Bryant.

If I ranked the top 10 right now I would go:

1- MJ
2-Russell
3-Magic
4- Kareem
5- Wilt
6- Duncan
7- Bird
8- Kobe
9- The Big O
10- Hakeem

Awesome list aside from #2. I also think "O" should be higher...

Tim is amazing ... Huge heart and always gives 100 percent every-time he's out there... Seeing him still playing at such a high level at age 38 just adds to the mans legacy... Separation is in the preparation and Tim is always prepared... Nothing flashy, overly exciting ... Just fundamentally polished and brings it every single night ... Spurs have had great teams but non of those teams are championship level without Tim anchoring it down. The man is great.

Best PF of all-time, that is a given IMO

Best All-time 6-10. The highest I would put him is 6. But no way I can go lower than 10.

So hard to compare 60's and 70's to what I would term the "modern era". I think I would have 2 lists. Pre 1980 and post 1980.

He's a great, but come on. Someone said Top 5 all time? Reactionary nonsense.

We forget that the game is played on both sides of the ball.
Timmy was arguably one of the best defenders to ever play the game.

Forget numbers, defense is much harder to quantify. But, when you watch a Spurs game over the last 17 years, you immediately see who is the best player on either team at defense.

In an era without hand-checking to slow down the guard penetration, and Euro style big men who can pull you 25 feet away from the rim, you could argue he was the best.

It would be a fitting end to his career for him to win DPOY at age 39.
I would say its a 2-man race between Timmy and Draymon Green for this season.

I think Timmy gets a little sentimental vote support and edges him out.

PF...that's tall, tall order, Malone, and McHale give him a run for his money imo, Idk if he was better, but his standard has been so high for so long and he was the main cog on the most of those championship teams...I think you have to say yes.

All players...off the top of my head I'm thinking top 50.[/QUOTE]

Best PF of all time. But the list people are posting pretty much says that. He has been so good for so long. Even at his age he was still able to make an all-star like Bosh look silly in the finals more than once. Never any problems out of him. A franchise couldn't ask for a better face.

guys you have to put over Duncan--

1. Jordan
2. Russell
3. Magic
4. Bird
5. Kareem
6. Wilt

he is somewhere in the next tier with 3-4 other guys. I dont think Duncan can be less than 10th or 11th best all time.

A lot depends on where you rank Kobe and Shaq- and where you think Lebron will end up.

I agree with someones on here sentiment that Duncan has to be ranked ahead of Shaq all time- but I would rather have Shaq at his best than Duncan at his best.

Kobe and Duncan are so very close- but I think I have to give it to Duncan who has proved his longevity over the back end of his career while Kobe's body has fallen apart. That might not be fair because Duncan had Pop taking care of him and Kobe was his own worst enemy in how he insisted on playing no matter what- but it is what it is.

Here's my question... Do you HAVE to put Magic ahead of Timmy? Seriously? I would put Magic ahead of him. But I think an argument for Timmy can be made.

I've always looked at Duncan as a C more so than PF, but I give him both positions I guess.

I think there have been PFs that may have been more versatile than Duncan...Worthy, McHale come to mind in that regard, but both pale in comparison to him over the course of his career.

I'm going to say yes on PF, but he's not him my top 5 for GOAT.

Screw it. Tim Duncan is a center and has been for the better part of 10 years. He can call himself whatever he wants but how they run their system, he's in a center's role. Either way though, he's a top 10 player all time

Amen. I am biased for Malone because I'm a Jazz fan, but I feel I would have had more appreciation for him earlier on if they had just called him a center. There'd have been no talk about greatest PF of all time. I'd be fine with Duncan, the center, being higher than Malone, the PF, in an all-time list. I mean, look at the championships and his role in them.

I just think when looking at specific positions, Duncan hasn't even played as many games as Malone did and his points are 5.3 off for his career. If Duncan plays as many games as Malone did (two more seasons of games), it might be closer to 6. That last Laker year brought Malone's average down by a lot. Rebounding advantage would go down, too (right now, it's 1 more per game). So are assists (Malone has 0.7 more). Blocks, yes, big advantage, but that's because I think of him as a center (Duncan, 1.4 more per game). He guarded centers and the paint a bit more and was taller. And yes, he was better at it anyway. 1.4 to 0.6 steals (Malone advantage). Two of the win shares were higher than Malone, but the rest Malone has above Duncan. Ceiling was higher for Duncan, floor was higher for Malone, middle years were better and ending years, too.

Numbers aren't everything - that's why on an all-time list, I'd see Duncan as higher. I just view him as a center, and if not, I wish others had seen him as a center all along.

Duncan still isn't the center, Tiago Splitter is. Only time duncan was the center was when they were stuck with Blair or Bonner starting.
