I'm telling you, the LBs are in for a good year. Been saying it for a while now.

Front 7 in general is gonna be one of the best in the conference. Mark my word right here and now.

Head coach Mike Riley said Nebraska did more live hitting on Tuesday — the first day of full pads — than he has ever done. “We got the young guys quite a bit of live play at the end,” Riley said. “They’re all very anxious to do that.”

— Nebraska was only able to do one group in practice because of a lack of wide receiver depth.

— The Huskers were missing De’Mornay Pierson-El, Jordan Westerkamp, Taariq Allen and Sam Burtch with what Riley called muscle issues. “It’s slowed down how I intended to do the practices,” Riley said.

— With so many wide receivers out, freshmen Stanley Morgan and Lavan Alston got a lot of reps. Riley said he has been impressed with the way Morgan has taken advantage of the opportunity.

— Junior defensive tackle Vincent Valentine also was out Tuesday, but is day-to-day with a knee bruise suffered before the start of fall camp.

— Riley said Nebraska has tried to be “fair” with the quarterback rotations after Tommy Armstrong. Ryker Fyfe, AJ Bush and Zach Darlington all got opportunities through the first week.

— Riley said Mikale Wilbon has made a big jump since spring camp as he has gotten more comfortable with Nebraska’s new offense.

— Russ Hochstein was in attendance at Nebraska’s practice, spending time with Milt Tenopir.

— Riley said he wanted to go with an extended live period for the defenders, because it allows them to finish tackles, rather than just getting in position and pulling up before contact.

— A big part of what Nebraska did on Tuesday night were third-and-long situations on offense.

— Riley said Nebraska is mixing things up right now, so continuity, especially on offensive line has been tough, but more players are getting opportunities.

— Riley said it’s possible that Nebraska will travel more running backs than they normally would because so many of the running backs are standouts on special teams.

Brasky put a bunch of BTN tweets. This John Gaskins guy seems to share some good stuff too:

Don'tget me wrong Illove Farve, but do you fellers think TA might be picking up Bret's throw a 100mph mentality?

I think its a catch 22.

TA has a strong arm and looses accuracy when he tries to finesse. He's thrown some turrible floaters.

He doesn't have all the tools, so we're gonna have to bear with him until either someone beats him out or a Riley style QB gets into the system.

Random question. Nebraska tied for 73rd in turnover margin last year with -2. This was always an issue under Bo's teams. What are your realistic expectations for this year as far as turnovers? Where would you like to end up?

Oregon St. finished tied for 40th in the nation last year at a +4 margin, for what it's worth.

If Tommy is considered a gunslinger by the media this year, that will be an improvement.

He's got good ability to operate in a dirty pocket, which we'll need because this OL is gonna have growing pains.
