Opinions are like rear ends and from my point of view yours is full of crap. Anyone that would equate century different sporting events as equal would have to work to step up to the fucking idiot level.

If you are going to do that bow down to Harvard and Princeton.
I’m not saying he is right for counting them. I’m saying that saying that “nearly every P5 football team was playing football in 1900” doesn’t mean he is saying that they were P5 teams in 1900.

Seriously. There was only two rating systems that go back into ancient times. One only gave Michigan one NC during the time you have claimed five. All were "awarded" after the fact.

In other words no one awarded National Titles back in those days. Football back then was basically a regional sport and as mentioned until 1926 Southern teams were ignored.

Five of your titles are less legit than the one UCF is claiming.
And you're somehow suggesting entities awarding titles then, is somehow better than randomly awarded titles after 1926? Hell, as already discussed, ND was awarded a title in 1947 (I think that's the year) where they got awarded prior to the damn bowl games being played, didn't play in a bowl game (MIchigan did and beat USC by more than they did) and ND was still awarded, before the bowl game the title over Michigan. There's bullshit qualifications for pretty much every title handed out prior to the playoff system.

Except, unlike rugby, leather helmets and cloth pads were used (Even then) and the rules were much different than rugby. And if you compare those HD NFL images to, say, something in the 1980's it even looks tragically old:

image

Here's Super Bowl Champ Bob Griese....

You clearly know no more about rugby than you do about football...note the helmets and padded shirts.

iu

You also talk about the 80's and then show a '72 photo of Bob Griese...here's his 1967 yearbook photo at Purdue

175px-Bob_Griese_1966.jpg

notice the difference between that and the photo for 1900 QB Walter Shaw of Michigan

220px-Walter_W._Shaw.jpg

Mr. Shaw would recognize this padded rugby shirt...
iu

He would see this and think we had revived gladiator fights...

My mistake, was included in this SI article:
Rare Photos from the 1980 NFL Season

Apparently they have other non-80's photos in an article titled, "rare photos from the 1980 NFL season".

only for G5 teams, not for P5 teams. I think G5 needs it's own national title because throughout CFB history, it's been exceedingly rare for those teams to win a national title.

Not that that would have made a pins difference in the argument, Griese looks like he is from a bygone era in that photo because he is old...at the tail end of a 13 year career. He is still wearing modern equipment easily recognizable by any child of today.

Hmmm...I wonder why that could be. I also wonder why anyone thinks the G5 teams want their own playoff? What they want is some of that sweet sweet P5 money, otherwise, they would have become FCS schools.

And I don't think any child would have a problem identifying the earlier photo I shared of football in 1901 as football. The field goal posts, and 11 and 11 play with...a football...on a...football field...is a good indicator.

Except you can’t tell how many people are on the field, you can’t see a football, and there are no goal posts in that picture you shared.

So what? Pretty much every P5 team was playing football at this time and had the same opportunity to win those titles.

Have you ever noticed that fans of every other team in the counrty here on SportsHoopla don't brag about titles won 100+ years ago? Only you meeeechegan fans. Wonder why that is?

Did they put goal posts on the sides of the fields back in the day and not in the end zones?
The picture is looking down a sideline, not a yard line. So the back of the picture is one endzone. You can see the tips of both field goal posts behind the pile.

That's because only elite teams have titles that span the history of CFB.

Again, you are showing your ignorance, you know what other sport has field goal posts...and if you could tell the difference between a 1901 football and a 1901 rugby ball you would be a magician, because there wasn't any. In 1901 the field was actually sized for the modern rugby game, which is the same as a Canadian Football field...both wider and longer, it wasn't standardized to the modern size until 1912.

You keep digging and I will keep shoveling dirt on the grave that Michigan football is standing in.

And you think children are going to squint their eyes and hunt for goal posts like it’s a “Where’s Waldo” book?

Given the popularity of Rugby in the US, I doubt few people would confuse early football with rugby.

Homer's will always homer. This is some funny stuff. meeeechegan's last outright national title was 1948. Now get this. Before that their last outright national title was 1902.

Got the info from ncaa.com.

This one was taken during the same year. Show this to anyone and football would be far down the list.
