I hate to say it, but perhaps it's time to pack it in now. We've lost 9 of 12 and have only 2 regulation wins in that stretch. Too much coughing the puck up and we can't keep it out of our net either. I don't blame the goalies at all. Critical turnovers and leaving top players wide open at our net is absolutely killing us. Then, when we desperately need a goal or even just a spark, our special teams isn't good enough.

Look at tonight:

1st goal against started as a 2 on 1. We got back, but nobody covered Bourque in front. Seeler and Drysdale both covering the man with the puck, can't stop the pass and it's an easy tap in for Bourque.

2nd goal against was a 3 on 2. Drysdale fails to mark Hintz in front and he punches home the rebound.

3rd goal against was a 3 on 1. Johnston snipes one home top corner over a sliding Risto.

4 goal against was an empty netter from deep in his own zone by Heiskanen.

Not much Ersson can do with any of those situations.

Also, 0 for 2 on the power play. Not drawing enough penalties and not scoring on the power plays.

I cant take Drysdale as our defenseman anymore. He needs to be sent down and Andrae brought back up immediately. Young defense comparison :

Andrae > Drysdale
York> Drysdale
Zamula > Drysdale
Grans > Drysdale

Either send him down or trade him but he is hurting this team.

Focus on development then. Is Tortellinni the right coach for that ? He can definitely empty the tank (get most out of players), but can he fill it ?

The last paragraph says it all:

And does it make sense to really do something like this in the middle of a lost season? If they were to acquire Gibson and surge back up the standings with some more wins to just miss the playoffs by fewer points and get a worse draft pick, does that even make sense to do? These are the questions we’re left wondering and will really only find out if it happens.

This would be a Holmgren move.

I don't think he is, we need a better coach who has better results. Im om board for this guy.

Plus that Big Brother played here, maybe help him get a leg in the door. The learning growth with torts has hit a wall.

We need a solid goalie only when we're ready to truly compete and by all means, that is not now.

Any trades we make should be us getting rid of guys that we don't see any use for beyond the next 2-3 seasons in favor of picks or prospects.

Or, if we've given up on certain guys, we roll the dice and try to shake things up with other players.

I could go along with this guy with the understanding it’s a 2-3 year player development period, then you bring in a Laviolette or someone that can coach a good talent group to the top.

Really rare to find a coach that can do both these days.
