Truth be told I am 4th generation Stanford. My great granddad was in one of the first graduating classes in the engineering program around 1903 (back when Stanford was free). Both of my grandfathers went there, my dads dad was on the baseball team. My dad did his BS and MS there, my sister did her BA and PHD there, and I did my BA at Stanford class of '94. I actually lived next to Coach Shaw for 2 years, and he was roommates with one of my fraternity brother's (Stenstrom the QB at the time).
I do not remember a time when I wasn't a Stanford fan. I just never thought I would get in. When I applied to colleges I went with the USAF Academy, USC, Boulder and Stanford. When I got in to LSJU there was no question where I would go. Worked a 90lb jackhammer 10 hours a day every summer to pay for school. I was lucky enough to play lacrosse and rugby while I was there.
Growing up in Kirkland as a Stanford fan was hellish at best. My first Stanford games were at Husky stadium during the Don James era. I still have vivid memories of the year Elway beat UW (1982). My dad had a bet with out neighbors who were Husky boosters. Poor rich guy had to mow our lawn for a month.
TL;DR Life Long Stanford Homer.
Very nice.....
Worst bet I ever lost was the 2000 Civil War. I was bartending in Eugene while in college at that time, and one of my favorite patrons was a Beaver alum. We made a bet on the game, and when the Ducks lost, I had to bartend an entire shift with a terrible Beaver hat on. I mean it was like a REAL Beaver, fur and all. It even had a stupid flat beaver tail hanging from the back......it was painful, and I think I probably drank more than the patrons did that night.....
