LOL at you thinking it's that easy!! This is the 4th year of sanctions and we haven't had a losing season yet. 'Bama, with lighter sanctions than what USC got, had at least 1 or 2 losing seasons and if memory serves, even lost to an FCS team during those years!!

The fact that we haven't had a losing season yet says that the players are at least competing and that there is some quality talent. There just isn't as much because we currently only have 67 scholarship players on the team.

I'm not trying to claim that Kiffin is the next Saban or even Pete Carroll. Kiffin had the 2nd best record over his first 2 seasons in USC history with no bowl games to play for. The biggest difference between those 2 teams and the last 2? Those first 2 teams had 85 scholarship players. This years team has 67!!

How do you think Nebraska would look if they had 18 fewer scholarship players than everyone on their schedule?

They are always ranked well in the recruiting rankings.

Looks to have more to do with coaching than whiffs or injuries.

 Very true re: the street agents and autographs!! I find that the defense is a pleasure to watch, but watching the offense is frustrating (to put it mildly)!!

I'm normally not a vindictive guy, but I do have to admit to getting a certain amount of pleasure in seeing how the NCAA has "screwed the pooch" in every case they've handled since!! It's great seeing how badly they are perceived when considering how "high and mighty" they thought they were at the time!!

If what happened to USC followed by the way the NCAA has screwed up everything they've handled since then leads to major changes in how the NCAA does things. Or results in the BCS schools telling the NCAA to go pound sand and form their own governing body. Then what happened to my Trojans will be worth it!!

If the Miami debacle doesn't do it maybe PSU's lawsuit will. IMO, when a governing body becomes so obviously susceptible to political influence as this organization has, there is no hope for redemption. The fact that cfb is nothing but a cash cow is hard to hide.

That is still impressive, and there not backing down on who they play...

What was the deal when Monte Kiffin left? Was it that he wanted back to the pros or was he having issues working with his son?

It was the performance of the defense last season. Monte simply didn't know how to adjust his Tampa 2 to the types of offenses that USC plays against, especially in the PAC-12!!

Looking at Oregon as the "gold standard" of current PAC-12 offenses, the teams that have had success against them are teams that play an aggressive, attacking defense!! The Tampa 2 is more of a bend, but don't break, keep everything in front of you type of defense. It works well in the NFL, not so much in college!!

With most PAC-12 schools developing some version of Oregon's offense, the Tampa 2 just wasn't ever going to work on a consistent basis.

Looks to have more to do with coaching than whiffs or injuries.

I agree that we always rank well, but those rankings are based on average number of "stars" per recruit. USC still gets 4 and 5 star recruits, but we don't get as many because of the sanctions. When one of those 4 and 5 star recruits gets injured or simply doesn't pan out, then there isn't anyone to step in to replace them like there is when we have 85 scholarship players.

Example, as I pointed out earlier, Silas Redd has been out for the 1st 2 games because of recovering from knee surgery. The running back that is starting in his place is a converted linebacker and the guy backing him up is a true freshman!!

Trust me, when the sanctions came down, I figured that we'd skate through them relatively unscathed because of the level of talent that we bring in. However, I didn't count on the depth issue. Many of the offenses that we play against are designed to create depth issues for a team with 85 scholarship players. It creates even more of a depth issue with 67 scholarship players!!

It's easy to blame Kiffin because of all of the SEC hate for him and he certainly doesn't do himself any favors with his big, idiot mouth!! But when you look past that and see the true effect of the sanctions, it paints a little bit different picture.

Again, imagine your 'Huskers with 18 fewer scholarship players and think about what they'd look like!!

The NCAA has screwed the Miami investigation up so badly that if they try to do anything beyond the sanctions that Miami self-imposed, Miami should sue them immediately and would be almost guaranteed to win!! I hope Penn St. wins their lawsuit too!! The NCAA had no business getting involved in that!!

Last I heard, Coach McNair (the NCAA's scapegoat with the USC case) was on the verge of winning his lawsuit against the NCAA!! I almost wish that Pat Haden wasn't a man of his word. He said when he took over that we wouldn't sue because he just wanted to get this over with. Considering what has happened since, I have to wonder if he has ever thought about reconsidering that decision!!

So Monte Kiffin was unjustly fired?

A. He wasn't technically fired, he stepped down.

B. USC's defense set school records for defensive futility last season. So even if he were fired, it would have been justified!!
