I agree to a point re: the qb situation. The problem is that ideally you want one to separate themselves from the other and actually win the job!! Neither has done that!! I can't really blame Kiffin for it because one of them has to step up!!

One thing I will say though, is that I think Kiffin just needs to bite the bullet, stick with one and see what happens. I can also see where it's hard to do when neither of them has actually earned the job!!

I agree he hasn't had much to work with, however how has the 2 QB thing worked so far? How does it ever work for teams that try it? You aren't letting either get comfortable nor any confidence doing it this way. Add that each are getting half the reps with the 1's and no one gets the rhythm they need on offense.

I contend that your offense would be better with either of them as the named starter with the full support of the team behind him. Maybe not great, but better than what they have.

I refuse to watch it.

Ever since I saw (live) Lawrence Taylor break Joe Theisman's leg, I can't watch that stuff.

I avoid it if I can.

yeah, good choice man. It was Theismanesque / even as bad as Lattimore's vs Tennessee last season

That basketball player last year was hard to watch. The one that landed and his leg just snapped like a rag doll. You just hope that kid can recover and return.

I agree that it certainly hasn't worked and he needs to just pick one. As I said, with the way the defense has played, if the offense is at least average, we become very dangerous!!

As for a 2 qb system working, it did work at USC in 1995 (I believe) won the PAC-10 and the Rose Bowl!! Similar situation too. One qb was more of a game manager like Kessler and one had the "big arm" like Wittek!!

Even at that, John Robinson (the coach at the time) said he'd never do it again!!

I've seen neither. I heard about them but haven't seen them. I won't click links and I look away from the tv.

LOL

Re: USC, I think that some of this isn't so much on Kiffin as it is the schollie reductions. I remember posting when the sanctions first came out that if we were to continue to perform at a high level, we couldn't afford any "misses"!!

We have all seen highly ranked/recruited kids simply not pan out for various reasons. With the level of recruits that USC gets, we never had to worry too much about that because if a guy didn't pan out, there was always someone else to replace him.

With the reductions, that "someone else" isn't there!! I know that we've had 2 "this is the next Reggie Bush" guys who didn't pan out (one transferred to Florida and one was kicked off of the team), but it didn't matter because there were others to step in. That's the biggest thing that's missing, imo!!

I think it goes without saying that USC is suffering under the sanctions and we have said so everywhere. There is no depth and it shows. I think you are just seeing the inevitable reactions blaming Kiffin when people see how bad the offense is.

Yeah, with the lost schollies it makes being good on both sides of the ball very difficult!! Last season, the offense was very good, but the defense was horrible. So far this season, the defense has been very good, but the offense has been horrible!!

Hopefully, Kiffin will apply what seems to be the overall opinion of this thread and just pick a qb and go with it!! Maybe I should take a drive out to USC and show him this thread?

I think he hears it loud and clear. Didn't he say last night they are used to playing on the road when asked about his own crowd booing them? He is just too stubborn to admit it wasn't the best option and make the changes he needs to IMO. So please keep him for a few more years will ya?

Makes total sense as to why the level of play has dropped off, no depth...
With this whole schollies reductions do fans blame Carrol for this whole probation stuff or is it on Reggie?

 Hopefully the boos will have some impact, but he can be very stubborn!! I said before the season that I thought he should give up the play calling. Not that he isn't a good play caller (he's actually always been very respected in that aspect), but because I think it's too difficult to be both the HC and the OC which is essentially the situation when you are the HC calling plays.

If memory serves, Pete Carroll tried being the HC and the DC for about 2 or 3 seasons before giving up the defensive play calling because it took too much away from his HC duties!! He kept "veto power" of course, but he left the defensive play calls to his DC!!

Basically, Kiffin needs to decide if he wants to be an OC or an HC!! He can't do both, very few can!!
